Jesus its hard but I would say The Ramones in 91 at Festival Hall in Melbourne followed by The Cramps at the Palace in 1995 and then Iggy Pop in about 92 I think.

The Ramones memorable for the build up and the energy and the sheer havoc of the slam I couldn't believe Joey was real.

The Cramps were just bloody amazing Lux is the world's best front man I have ever seen he knows who to bring it down low and then make the band roar like a hot chilli pepper steak.

Iggy Pop & his hired guns - just takes you to another world both times!

1. The Spits- Kraftbrau Brewey, Kalamazoo, MI September 2007
(this was one of the last shows at that bar, they played for their home town.)

2. King Khan and BBQ at some hole in the wall in Philly, PA- maybe 2004 ish.
(went 'cause it was advertised)

3. Stereolab- a venue in Wales that I can't even pronounce.

My fav shows have all been in small venues. Someone mentioned Fleshtones, seen them numerous times all of Atlanta in the 90's, fun fun fun!
My most recent favorite show: Spiderbags at Lenny's- one of the most underrated and unheard bands playing around, which is good for me, because I made up about 1/2 of the audience, and they played like it was packed house.
Smoke- always played a good show- at the Clairmont, The Point, BLT's, always an unforgetable experience.
DQE played a show with Chrome Cranks (what retard paired those 2?) but DQE was awesome.
Black Angels are fun to watch, they all switch instruments throughout the whle show.
never forget the early shows like Bad Manners way back when.
US bombs played in this little building all of 20'X20', good time had by all.

Fatherhood has seriously limited my time and money for going to shows- so I am alot more selective these days. Mostly local stuff now.

Hmm...maybe Monks at Dirty Water Club, Black Keys at Camden Barfly...dunno, Sonics at Cavestomp? The Pretty Things at The ICA and Love at QEH were both great too. I really enjoyed The Stooges doing Funhouse, but it wasn't a gig, it was a 'show'. All a bit over-planned. For instance, though I'd never seen it before, I kind of instinctively knew that stage invasion would happen at the same time every time they did a gig.

With many of these gigs, the performance itself might not be so hot, it's more the fact you're seeing an act you never imagined seeing that makes it great. I think that's true of the both The Seeds and Roky Erickson for me. The Electric Prunes, however, were just a bit shit.

Best gig in any genre: Jeff Buckley in Leeds and The Boredoms at The Scala.

The Cramps at the Brixton Academy in 1990 (Stay Sick)

Every weekend in the 1980's at the Klubfoot (The Meteors, Guanabatz, The Stingrays, Demented Are Go, The Milkshakes, Frenzy, The Caravans, Emptifish, Restless, Torment, Klingonz, The Coffin Nails ...etc. etc.).

King Kurt - they were all good (and messy) - wherever would let them play !

Wow, hard to name just 3.
The Cynics at the DC Space; Washington, DC 1987. Absolutely crushing show.
Sonic Youth at 9:30; Washington, DC 1987. This was about the end of their "Sister" tour and we left speechless. Also the loudest show I have ever seen.
and three old punk rock/HC show from 82-84: all in Richmond, VA: Minor Threat Yes, they lived up to their hype, great show. Void My 1st real HC show in '82 total fury and insanity. Dead Kennedys They were larger than life and the first HC I ever saw in a ballroom with over a 1000 people. Slamming galore. Black Flag "Damaged" tour Taught everyone how its done; absolutely huge.
More recently: The Makers at the 7th St Entry Mpls. 1997. Before they sucked they ripped. The Forty-Fives Star Bar; Atlanta 2002. They rocked and they got me dancing, enough said. Reliable always The Cramps 6 times all great. The Ramones 14 times. The kings.

If I only count current bands playing at their time (no reunions) or "big names" who are always great, I'd say the Devil Dogs in '91, Lightning Beatman & Las Monjitas del Fuzz (=Doctor Explosion) around '94 or '95, Redd Kross in '94, the Loved Ones in '94... I have seen so many great gigs, but the ones I mention were specially unbelievable. But I have the feeling I'm forgetting something...

Hmmmm, a lot, a lot....

But hearing Solomon Burke play in my hometown a couple a years ago was fantasic!

King Kahn in the Sonderbar in Feldkirch (with the Shri nes) handing out healing to the audience - he hit me with his rythm stick. The Shrines where sitting on the stairs and the "stage" was almost not there. Kahn was jumping into the people and moved around like a fire cracker.

The Flaming Sideburns in Stuttgart - They were in a good, aggressive mood and the place was packed. Good fun!
