Gaza Strippers 96-97ish Orbit Room/Dallas
Was feeling very doubtful of the state of RNR at this time. Went to see the GS on a whim, and was turned back on INSTANTLY.

garageshock-the one that had the untamed youth, girl trouble, abones , phantom sufrers & young fresh fellows. i still remember the silly string & union 76 balls the phantom surfers threw out.
the fleshtones- in seattle
love at the emp.
I would have to start my Number 1 "gig" with the Las Vegas Grind weekend back over Halloween weekend 1999. AWESOME Show! You can't go wrong with the line-up - Dukes of Hamburg, Neatbeats, Thee Mighty Caesars, Diaboliks, Untamed Youth, Wailers, Neanderthals, Arousers, Jack & The Rippers, Trashmen, Wildebeests, The Devil-Ettes, Andre Williams and many more. Three days with no sleep and some of the best Halloween costumes you will ever see. (I am only counting this as one show as each band only did a relatively short set).
Next Cramps (RIP Lux) at the 9:30 club in DC, Also on a Halloween weekend back in 1983.
Finally, the Slickee Boys at the DC Space in Feb/March 1989. The Slickee Boys always put on a great show.
There are probably a hundred gigs that I loved, but these are the most remarkable ones I can remember:
1992- Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver, The Cramps- I was only 12 and was snuck in underage, it changed my life! Lux & Ivy became my idols.
2004- Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver, The Pixies- This one was special because they hadnt played Vancouver (or perhaps much anywhere) since the early 90s and so Vancouver went totally nuts about this show, people were camping at record shops and ticketmaster it was madness so those of us that were inside went absolutely mental during the show and they sounded perfecty tight.
2005- Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver, New York Dolls- This one was interesting in that I was happily proven wrong: I had always loved listening to their recordings but was dubious and perhaps had low expectations about how this live show was going to be- I went in and was joyously proved wrong- they sounded fucking great and I danced my pants off.
2006- The Astoria, London, The Cramps- This one was super special because I'd just arrived in Europe for the very first time and fresh off the boat as they say, I went to a bar in Brighton. I met (my now great friend) Neil who walked up to me and told me that the Cramps were playing tomorrow night, I had a flight booked to Switzerland, he said if I paid to change it by one day he would give me the Cramps ticket for free- I phoned the airline, we stayed up drinking all night, and when we entered the Astoria it was as raw and pulsating and swarming as a bloody beating heart.
2008 was an amazing year- best was seeing The Sonics (Friday & Sunday) at the Forum in London, Funtastic Dracula in Valencia seeing The Mummies, Dancing with King Khan & The Shrines at the Dirty Water Club in London, and I must say even if she doesn't exactly fit in the genre we're discussing- Me & some friends opened for Wanda Jackson in Pineda de Mar, Spain at a festival and she sounds as amazing and fresh as any of her recordings, she was super sweet and not stuck up about us sharing a dressing room with her, and introduced her 80-or-something yr old husband as "the man who is a better kisser than Elvis"!
I can't believe no one mentioned it before, but 1: The Mummies last year at Funtastic Dracula Carnival.
2. The Stooges, three years ago at Lowlands Festival in Holland. 3. The Rippers at Primitive Festival two years ago.
Had to patient until they came over to UK but number 1 has to the first time I saw
The Cramps @ Hammersmith Palais London 1981 supported by The Meteors (with Nigel and mark) and Sreaming Lord Sutch
The Milkshakes about 60 times they used to play every weekend almost in London somewhere or other, places like Pinder of Wakefield in Kings Cross, The Clarendon Hammersmith.
check out this clip filmed for UK TV, I managed to get an invite and I did get 2 seconds of TV fame in the crowd!
The actual performances were mimed by all the bands as a small bit of detail!
The Fuzztones @ Dingwalls London must have been about 1983!!!
The Birthday Party @ Brixton Ace London 1982 or 83!!
Here's a curve ball my Dad took me to see Led Zepplin @ Knebworth UK 1979
Any way enough reminiscing for the mo.
