Whats your favourite albums from the first Punk era 76-80 ?

I love the first Clash album...so much damn energy...and it sounds today more like an English garage band than so called punk.

you know what band we're forgeting??? the cramps! even tho they're more surf/psychobilly,they still had a big impact on early punk. i love the fuckin' cramps. even there new shit rocks! you can be strickly a punk fan fan and like the cramps or be a rockabilly fan and like the cramps. they're universal, like motorhead! come to mention it... we forgot them too!!! shit! they are like the cramps but on a much larger stage. they brought punk/metal and rock all togather. if the cramps are universal, motorhead is the universe that we live in. hale motorhead!!!

The Cramps rule ! What I like about them (apart from the kickass Poison Ivy) is that they are great live on stage as well.

Maybe they aren't that punk but one band that had a big influence on the scene here in Australia was the Birthday Party.
Say what you will about some of Mr Cave's more recent output, but the Birthday Party and the Boys Next Door were something that most people hadn't seen the likes of.

Ya got that right...some of that early Birthday Party stuff is down right scarey...you heard Nick's latest outfit, Grinderman? Blew my fucking mind the first time i heard their self titled LP that came out last year....and since then i've been searching out all of Nick's solo LP's cause there's definitely something there....

In 1979 Keith Whittaker turned me on to 2 albums by bands that have not been cited. XTC and Deaf School.

You should check out the video for Nick The Stripper, there are a couple of them on Youtube.
Just heard my 1st Grinderman song yesterday in fact, No Pussy Blues, best thing Nick Cave has done for ages.

Public Image Limited were a pretty important band from '78 onwards.
I still listen to there music though some of it does sound a bit dated.

I dig the Undertones first album, "I wanna, wanna be a male model". They were another of those bands that had punk tunes but were a little too talented (or not irritable enough) to be punk by the time they were recording music.

grinderman is way cool, but it seems nick cave come out with some real classic stuff or it's crap. hit or miss w/ him. didn't he get religious for a while in the late 80's? it think it was the 80's. back then i was listening to a lot thrash and hardcore, so i wasn't paying to much attention to him at the time.

For those of you that enjoy great '60s music, but crave to hear some music that Oldies stations do not play, you've come to the right place. No overplayed oldies, just songs from groups that seem to fall of the radar of most classic rock stations....
