hi everybody

when i was younger i use to play (ok it's not the right term...) electric guitar in a hc punk band...just power chords in 3-chords-songs.

now friends give me a guitar just to play on my own...

i'm askin' if out there there's a manual or a method to play electric guitar in "our" way...rock guitar in a "garage punk" style...i don't want to loose any time in stupid and boring stuff...

thanx

In my humble opinion, the best thing to do is learn the 5-tone blues scale and listen to a lot of Billy Childish....
Listen to exsisting Garage Punk and then rip it off. Much like Sara's comment really. It's a stable law throught the genre - if in doubt, rip it off!
learn the Ventures. learn the sonics. learn link wray. and then unlearn everything and make your own.
and get a really crappy guitar. it really helps your fingers toughen up quite a bit. high action guitars strung with barbed wire is what i'd recommend!
It's all about Link Wray, really.
LISTEN TO THE KINKS UNTIL YOUR EARS ARE BLEEDING!
Sell the guitar and pick up Guitar hero. Cause those moving colored note thingys is actually how playing rock and roll looks. ;)
Start with the basics: Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Link Wray... that's all ya need to know. Get a good distortion pedal and make sure you're playing through a good old tube amp with some reverb. It's amazing how simple it actually is. It's when you start to try and make it sound perfect that it starts to sound like shit. Keep it raw!
On a similar note(and completely serious - disregard my joke above) - what are the best things to drum on for a home recording/bedroom 4 track setup that sound good and lo-fi(ala Jay Reatards bedroom recordings, etc)when you dont actually have drums and/or a drummer? Ive tried boxes and buckets, but if anyone knows of a better solution besides getting a drummer, lemme know. Thanx.
I think they used cardboard boxes on early Buddy Holly recordings didn't they?

the best link wrat record to start learning?and what about the kinks?
For link wray i's say ' Commanche' and for the kinks ' You Really Got Me'
One a them big cans of cooking oil you get (emptied of course) makes a good drum, backs of acoustic guitars or hard guitar cases, metal serving trays... Also you can pick up cheap plastic drums that sound alrite from yer local toy shop... I had a Disney set that cost 15pounds...
