And I'm not talking about 80s hair metal bands, I'm talking about the real thing...T-Rex, David Bowie, Roxie Music, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Slade, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, the New York Dolls, etc.

I'm bringing this up because I saw a great glam rock revival band in NYC last weekend called Prima Donna. They're from Los Angeles, and they sound like a cross between the Dolls and Mott. They even have a guy who plays keyboard and sax. They released their debut album, "After Hours," in 2008 on the Acetate label, and Little Steven got me into them late last year when he named "Stray Doll" as the "Coolest Song in the World" (This song sounds like an outtake from the "Rocky Horror" soundtrack). Another song that I love is "Soul Stripper," which is a wonderful rip-off of Alice Cooper's "Under My Wheels."

I just posted a bunch of pictures here from the gig, and I just wanted to know if anyone else here has heard of them, or would like to check them out.

Me , too , tho' not as much as some people do.... I saw a guy in a coffee shop , I thought he was trying to look like Eno , early  70's. Turns out he was trying to look like Riff Raff !!!

I have been getting more and more into glam rock. Of course I love Bowie & NY Dolls. What about early Eno?
Glitter should be given the respect he's due, especially as he influenced a lot of other bands (I'm no fan of his). He influenced a lot of Britpop acts, but then, so did T-Rex as well.

Yes , I'm a big fan of the original stuff , The Dolls , T -Rex , Sweet , Slade , Mott The Hoople , HE who I guess Should Not Be Mentioned ...WTF , I mean Gary Glitter , Suzi Quatro , Mud , Alice Cooper Group , early Roxy Music , and , yes , the more obscure  stuff , too, tho' most of this IS obscure  ...  I like Hanoi Rocks a lot , too , tho' the LA Hair Metal bands and the insanely overrated G'n'R are'nt fit to polish any of these bands' platforms , including Hanoi Rocks (Yes , G'n'R gets kudos for reissuing the original HR back catalogue , not taking that away from them.) .

I did see Prima Donna , once. No offense of any kind meant , but , they did'nt do it for me. I sensed their good influences , and dug the energy , but , was'nt into the music itself , so much. I tried , because I can see their hearts were in the right place.

I AGREE , WHOLEHEARTEDLY , WITH YOU. I'm still a big fan of Gary Glitter's music , itself , and I think he deserves more credit for what he and Mike Leander created , but , the reason I (Half jokingly) Referred to him as "He who should not be named" , is because he was only recently released from a Vietnamese prison for indecent behavior with two pre - teen girls ( I think he served three years.) , and extradited back to England , where his name is less than mud. A JOURNALIST ASKED IF HE'D PLANNED TO GET HELP , to which he replied , he had'nt done anything wrong. Ironically , he requested permission to be sent to France , just as Roman Polanski was being sent from there to here. It's possible some of the charges brought against him in Britain and Souteast Asia were'nt completely accurate , but , he's not a well man.
Anyone interested in "real glam" , that would be mainly uk bands from 1970-1975 will love the book, "Children of the Revolution" by Dave Thompson. A must read for any glam fan of t.rex, sweet, suzi quatro, mud etc. This book is a treasure trove of information ranging from reviews of all releases by everyone famous or obscure. to telling you who appeared on what tv show etc. You wont be able to put this book down and you will be looking around of all these bands and releases you never heard of. It is the glam rock bible.
I have that book on my amazon wish list:)

Check out the Lee Harvey Oswald Band too.  Great stuff.
That's quite all right.  Each to his own.

BTW, since interest in this thread has perked up again, I would like to recommend a band called Biters.  They are a mix of glam, power pop, and bubblegum.  My favorite song by them, "Beat Me Baby," has a great Johnny Thunders feel to it, and another song, "Rock'n'Roll Loser," is a great T-Rex rip-off.
Biters are great.! and killer live
I was surprised how hard rocking they were:)  The studio versions of their songs tend to be rather sugary.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, just my first impression.

They stayed w/ me after their show in Boston.  The hit for me is 'Oh Yeah [The Bitch Wants More]'. I think they'll be getting more of a glam vibe if Tuk the singer follows thru on the new songs.

Tuk the singer is a huge uk glam fan and he said their next album would show more of that sound as an influence. so i am looking forward to seeeing what they come up with
