Any glam rock fans around here?

And I'm not talking about 80s hair metal bands, I'm talking about the real thing...T-Rex, David Bowie, Roxie Music, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Slade, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, the New York Dolls, etc.

I'm bringing this up because I saw a great glam rock revival band in NYC last weekend called Prima Donna. They're from Los Angeles, and they sound like a cross between the Dolls and Mott. They even have a guy who plays keyboard and sax. They released their debut album, "After Hours," in 2008 on the Acetate label, and Little Steven got me into them late last year when he named "Stray Doll" as the "Coolest Song in the World" (This song sounds like an outtake from the "Rocky Horror" soundtrack). Another song that I love is "Soul Stripper," which is a wonderful rip-off of Alice Cooper's "Under My Wheels."

I just posted a bunch of pictures here from the gig, and I just wanted to know if anyone else here has heard of them, or would like to check them out.

I got a soft spot for the old glam. Ziggy Stardust and Electric Warrior were two of the first cassettes I received as a little kid. I haven't really listened to any of the newer stuff.

Two quintessential glam albums for certain. Along with "After Hours" by Prima Donna, I would also recommend "Spooky Sugar" by the Science Fiction Idols and "Night Life" by Cobra Verde. Aside from that, there are not a lot of contemporary glam bands out there.

I personally like the solo Ian Hunter stuff even more than Mott The Hoople. The "All of The Good Ones Are Taken" LP is one of those lost to time and tide albums.

And as long as I don't think too hard about what a shit-heel he is, I really enjoy most of Gary Glitter's catalog. ("Shakey Sue" is probably my favorite song of his.)

Like I try not think about leadbelly having committed multiple homicides, Ike Turner being a brutal woman beater, any number of country western stars being racists and, well the frankly innumerable number vile transgressions made by artists whose music i enjoy.

Lets face it...if we liked rock stars based on their character, we would all have seriously limited album collections. Bottom line, they're all assholes to some degree or another.
