And I'm not talking about 80s hair metal bands, I'm talking about the real thing...T-Rex, David Bowie, Roxie Music, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Slade, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, the New York Dolls, etc.

I'm bringing this up because I saw a great glam rock revival band in NYC last weekend called Prima Donna. They're from Los Angeles, and they sound like a cross between the Dolls and Mott. They even have a guy who plays keyboard and sax. They released their debut album, "After Hours," in 2008 on the Acetate label, and Little Steven got me into them late last year when he named "Stray Doll" as the "Coolest Song in the World" (This song sounds like an outtake from the "Rocky Horror" soundtrack). Another song that I love is "Soul Stripper," which is a wonderful rip-off of Alice Cooper's "Under My Wheels."

I just posted a bunch of pictures here from the gig, and I just wanted to know if anyone else here has heard of them, or would like to check them out.

How funny, last weekend I got "The Psychomodo" by Cockney Rebel on Rhapsody. Great record!
I personally get some shit for liking T-rex, but Marc Bolan is all worth it :D I really couldn't hate 80s hair more, but like every other rock genre, glam has had its ups and down. Roxy music kicks some serious ass as well, and with a somewhat cooler attitude, but I haven't had a chance to listen to that much of it, sadly.
T. Rex, Slade, Bowie, New York Dolls, Alice Cooper are all time faves...
How can anyone not like T-Rex? Marc Bolan was as cool as it gets.

I don't much want to hi-jack the thread much further, but I can dig it. I just don't happen to think that my enjoying the music is a some kind of tacit approval for the Glitter's sick behavior.

And to return to topic... I like that David Werner Self Titled LP, which is often thrown in with Glam and power pop. Even if he dressed up like a nun and gave poison milk to school children.

yeah i not got a problem with murderers, beating woman.. its all fine.. but children is really realy really bad.
I'm surprised no one's mentioning bands like Mud, Jook and other things that got overlooked amongst all the Bowie, Mott, etc. Those comps I mentioned above are a treasure trove of interesting (and not so interesting) stuff. Worth it just for finding out about Iron Virgin.

Fuck yeah man. Bowie, Dolls, Hollywood Brats, Roxy Music, Jook, Zolar X... I love Glam!
Glam is some of the best underground music (underground for the US anyway) of the early to mid 70s and alot sexier than the cockrockers of the day. If you don't like Gary Glitter, you can listen to Joan Jett's version of his tunes and it's just as good.
I'm gonna see Prima Donna Sunday in Vegas!! Yahoo!!! And YES I LOVE GLAM!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent! Please send them my regards.
