Any glam rock fans around here?

And I'm not talking about 80s hair metal bands, I'm talking about the real thing...T-Rex, David Bowie, Roxie Music, Mott the Hoople, Sweet, Slade, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, the New York Dolls, etc.

I'm bringing this up because I saw a great glam rock revival band in NYC last weekend called Prima Donna. They're from Los Angeles, and they sound like a cross between the Dolls and Mott. They even have a guy who plays keyboard and sax. They released their debut album, "After Hours," in 2008 on the Acetate label, and Little Steven got me into them late last year when he named "Stray Doll" as the "Coolest Song in the World" (This song sounds like an outtake from the "Rocky Horror" soundtrack). Another song that I love is "Soul Stripper," which is a wonderful rip-off of Alice Cooper's "Under My Wheels."

I just posted a bunch of pictures here from the gig, and I just wanted to know if anyone else here has heard of them, or would like to check them out.

thank you for the info!! a glam revival is just what this world ALWAYS needs......DIY this, DIY that, but can you riddle me some thigh high silver lame boots and green mascara w/o adding something uncomplimentary and stupid that has absolutely nothing to do with toning it all down .....or starting off on the right foot then degenerating into something horribly awful like techno (or whatever it's called anymore) like some do, not that the above named would. Viva la REAL glam and all of its variable children. When I was born when Gary Glitter (pervert tho he may be) was on the UK pop charts and Suzy Quattro over here that must have been a wonderful time, so where did all the rock n roll go. I'm particularly fond of Slade in terms of good noize and early Roxy Music is just some of the best orchestrated glam there is...

I just found out that there will be a David Bowie tribute show tomorrow night at the Brillobox. I know Bowie has done a lot of things way beyond glam rock, but I still wanted to mention this here, since he was arguably the most iconic artist of that era. The show will include DJs, a tribute band, and a drag show (No, I'm not participating).

In between seeing Prima Donna last month in NYC (And on the Lower East Side, which gave birth to the NYC glam scene at the Mercer Arts Center nevertheless) and going to a Bowie tribute show tomorrow night, it's starting to feel like 1972 around here. I feel like singing "All the Young Dudes" right now.

BTW, the Brillobox is a club owned by a couple of New Yorkers, so I strongly suspect the venue's name pays homage to Andy Warhol, whom Bowie greatly admired. Funny how this all fits so perfectly.

Just thought I would mention that I'm on the press list for Alice Cooper's PR guy (he mostly represents roots-type artists now, biggest client at the moment is probably John Mellencamp) and Alice will be releasing a live DVD at the end of this month and has also recorded a new album with several members and the original producer of the '70s band.
