Absolutely still care about them. I'm digging the new album! Of course, I still say that "Los Valientes" is one of their best. The energy capture on that live album is insane. And of course "We Did Not Know the Forest..." and "Good Bad Not Evil" are awesome.

And if you're into a more obscure cut, I suggest you check out the Black Lips/Subsonics split 7" on Rob's House Records called "Live at the Clermont Lounge."

And one last thing... they're connected to Bobby Ubangi. Can't go wrong there.

If I never hear a neo-garage/neo-psych band again I'll die a happy man. The 50's to mid 70's were great for a reason.....they got the right studio sound (plus they weren't making the big bucks so it was less about image and more about the art). Now a day all these bands sound overproduced, they ain't the genuine article. I feel today's rock bands are more about image and being decadent and less about the people and making a statement. I'll take my Simply Saucer, Q65, The Savages, mid 60's Bob Dylan, 13th Floor Elevators, Townes Van Zandt, The Outsiders, Painted Ship, the Sonics, Swamp Rats, the Rising Storm and any other psych, country, classic rock, folk, soul and jazz band over today's corporate bullshit (ie the Black Keys, Black Lips, White Stripes or any of those earlier bands like the Cramps and Chesterfield Kings). I mean there are a few exceptions to the rule....The Long Ryders, Rain Parade, Dukes of Stratosphere, Spacemen 3, Dream Syndicate were cool and didn't sound as derivative as say the Chesterfield Kings. Let it bloom and GBNE are really great records but friends of mine saw them recently in Berlin and told me the show was shit cause the guys seemed to be pretentious like shitty rock stars. Maybe simply a bad show for the band. Maybe they begin to have the Hives syndrome I mean they become bigger and bigger and popularity begins to blur or temperate the madness they've got at beginnig ? Whatever they know write weird garage tunes.

I missed the concert they had in Norway! (I`m from Norway). I really hope anyone will help me to send my demo of myself singing three karaoke-songs by Hoodoo Gurus! (Ron Peno from Dead Pretty is a very good friend of Brad Shepherd. He wrote a song on a cd by "Black Lips". I have one problem: everybody`s calling me "crazy" and are blocking me out when I`m sending request for a record deal (I`ve got 97 of 99 points at the karaoke-game SING STAR). Great if I can get a free hotel at some privat home at my visit to Australia next year and some help to get into a recording studio!

Yer i'm diggin the latest record ,But i have to say i really didn't like it on first listen. Let it bloom and good bad are great ,fun records.so i'm still down with the lips for now.

I really don't listen to them that much. I mean they're good but not great to me. I did get 200mill though.

i like the black lips... 200 million thousand is not a great album, i like the tracks 'starting over' and 'again & again' but overall it was underwhelming... i interviewed them right after that album came out and they were pretty stand offish and not easy to interview, but that aside i still like them as a band - their production is great and they put on a good live show... I seriously hated the record when I first listened to it; I really thought they had gone to far and were off into the mainstream too far. But the more I listen to what the songs are about, it's pretty incredible they made this album. It's pretty much a masterpiece if you ask me, pretty much.

UHHHHHHH, I posted this forum when the record came out, you all should have figured out by now that 200 Million Thousand is the shit. They make horrible music videos, and Short Fuse is a pretty gay song, but whatever.

Seen the Black Lips a few times..they used to put on a really good show. Now its..i dunno..really odd. Best album Los Valientes...200 million thousand could have been better. Elijah's great, I'll be with you too...As people they're alright. Jared gave me and my friend free shirts, Ian's chatty as hell, Joe played an encore alone and Cole's uh well he's a looker. oh

Seeing them live in San Francisco definitely confirmed that I hate them now. Seeing them headline FYF Fest made me forget I ever liked them.
