(such as The Cramps, Roky Erickson, Thee Cormans, The Damned)
I'm on the hunt considering it's nearly Halloween.

Permalink Reply by John Battles on December 1, 2011 at 3:03pm Mark George , Mick Farren had a great Bela Lugosi song (Actually biographical.) several years before Bahaus did. It's just called "Bela Lugosi" , and , in my humble opinion is the far better song of the two. I may have mentioned The Washington Dead Cats , from France. They've been around forever. They had some good Horror songs , very silly , but I can't think of another band that fused Psychobilly and Psychedelia with Pere Ubu overtones. I bought a tape of theirs in 1986 , which came in a plastic bag with a sticker , a lyric book and a badass psychedelic shirt which I still have....It also contained a piece of butterscotch candy. The guy at the store told me "You know what ? That candy might have acid in it !". He was probably wrong , but , I thought , WHY TAKE A CHANCE ?

That was around the time I first got into both Screamin' Jay and The Fuzztones , who did a very sympathetic job backing him , tho' the record , and the performance (By people I talked to who were there.) were slagged at the time. "So in the heat of the meat and in the mass of the ass , the shade of the toothpick meets the hot boiling sun!".
There's video of the performance on You Tube , also.

Permalink Reply by Sam Sinister on December 3, 2011 at 10:37pm Someone already mentioned them, but the meteors are hands-down the best "official" psychobilly band. If you count the Cramps (they themselves don't), the Meteors are second, followed closely by the Guana Batz. The early UK stuff had a really great, raw sound. Nekromantix are really good, but they verge on thrash metal and wouldn't be recommended to fans of early rockabilly as an introduction to psycho. I love the Rev, as well, but the American stuff is a bit different. I wouldn't call Elvis hitler or Mojo psychobilly. I've always considered both to be more cowpunk. This is all in my humble opinion, BTW.
Permalink Reply by The Pulsebeats on December 4, 2011 at 4:46am There was a great band in Manchester a year or so back called The Witches. I know they signed to a small label, but not sure if they ever got round to putting anything out. Must investigate. Anyway, here's what they sound like.
Permalink Reply by Slim Polski on December 6, 2011 at 3:44am The Young Werewolves from Philadelphia are friends of mine, they've been at it a long time and put on a great show.
Here's my 2011 halloween episode with a tracklisting. Should find some stuff that fits the theme.

Altar Relics (San Diego) - not as 'spooky' but friends of mine, really nice dudes.
Permalink Reply by The Amphibious Man on December 13, 2011 at 4:51pm Damn! I'm so happy I saw this this is so sick. I like the rawness of his voice. It might be a bit corny but The Ghastly Ones have some pretty cool stuff and also Messer Chups from Russia has a sick spook vibe.
