The GaragePunk Hideout

GaragePunk.com's Social Network

I'd like to get a list of people - artists and groups - that people here would consider the best of the best from a GaragePunk perspective. If we can get together a list of say, 50 or so candidates, I'll conduct a poll here on the forum to elect members to a "Garage Punk Hall of Fame".

Candidates can be from any era. Just to get us going why don't I throw out some names off the top of my head.

How about...

Billy Childish
Mick Collins
The Dead Boys
The Devil Dogs
The MC5
The Monks
The Mummies
MX-80
The Seeds
The Stooges
Roky Erickson/13th Floor Elevators
Link Wray

And feel free to toss out any names you can think of. Even if you don't think they're quite "Hall of Fame" worthy but should at least be considered.

Lets see what we can come up with here...

thousands of others... This may just be pointless. Garage rock is an anti-hall of fame kind of genre.

Oops, Link Wray was already listed.

I'd add the Cyncis (PA), The Satelliters, The Gories, Unrelated Segments, Reigning Sound, and Lyres, but this was a great list!

After seeing last night's spontaneous Headcoats reunion, yes, Billy Childish has got to be at the top of the list! (And the Cynics were, indeed, totally amazing here last Thursday. As well as, like Billy, having been making great garage punk sounds since before some of their audience were born.)

Headcoats reunion! When's the last time Billy came across the pond to the US? And yes, there's no way he should be omitted.
