Outside of shows/gigs of course.
I guess we are kind of a specific group of people but I was pretty impressed today with a kid at the check out at my grocery. He had a sort of Paul Weller haircut and was wearing a Vibrators, Damned and the Jam pin on the shirt.I was like, "you got taste man" and we got in a conversation about music. It's weird that we didn't know each other but anyhow, it's reassuring to meet people who like good music.

Permalink Reply by Bibliodiscoteque on April 17, 2012 at 9:11am I am waiting for that day I get to meet you in person. I'm actually thinking of a pilgrimage.
That said, I no longer go to shows that much (as a 5am grownup job takes it out of me) and I tend to wear band shirts only on vacations or working on the lawn, but I have my buttons and I'm a pretty approachable guy, so feel free to say Hi if you ever see me buying groceries or cussing at the kids who can't pull up their damn pants.

Very rarely -- especially in the garage-punk realm. I remember running into an acquaintance in a parking lot wearing a Dead Moon T-shirt. I almost hugged him.
I am a hillbilly music nut and have a local radio show for that obsession, so it's a little easier to find common ground with folks with old country stars like Willie Nelson or Roger Miller. (Just don't ask me about virtually any country act played on commercial radio since about 1980.)
I do a weekly music column at my paper (the local daily). So people cone up to me all the time and say stuff like, "You're a music fan. What do you think of the new Rod Stewart album?" My first thought is usually "You don't actually read the words in my column do you?"
On the other hand, ever so often people come up and tell me I've turned them on to some good music with my column or radio shows. That's always nice.
But more often, I'm like Mark. When someone asks me what I've been listening to and I spout off names of bands I really like, even a lot of the country bands, people look at me like I'm nuts.
Permalink Reply by antonio on April 17, 2012 at 8:05pm It's a bit difficult for me to hang around with people with different music tastes to mine.
Anyway, I´ve made great friends and dated with some girls talking about The Buzzcocks, The Cramps, The Kinks, etc. at bars or after a gig.
Deffinitely, for me, music is quite important when having a relation, sentimental or just friendship.
Permalink Reply by antonio on April 17, 2012 at 8:06pm By the way, this doesn't happen very often.

Permalink Reply by whatwave dave on April 22, 2012 at 2:59pm It's boards like this that enable all us outcasts to get together and let loose every now and again. Last night we put on a show here in sleepy London Ontario Canada. All 4 of the bands involved have some presence right here (2 have been on garagepunk hideout compilations), as do many of the members of these bands. And a couple other people saw the event posting here on garagepunk hideout and came to the event because of that, (neither are facebook members so this is the only place they could have found out about the show). It wasn't a hugely attended show, but it was the quality of the crowd over the quantity!! And a ROCKIN' good time was had by all, whether garagepunk hideout members or not!!
And because of all the plugs/mentions for garagepunk hideout, there might just be a few more members to this board!
Thank You Kopper, for getting us outcasts together in the real world!!

Permalink Reply by Torn Down Units on April 28, 2012 at 1:07pm It's an absolute shock if I do. Rarely ever happens, and happens less as I get older.
Meeting someone who was into punk never use to be a problem. Finding someone who was into garage punk only happened at shows or specific record stores. Now it's never.
Permalink Reply by Scott_hn on April 30, 2012 at 3:04pm Kind of gives me the warm fuzzies to know there are youngsters who appreciate the "good" music... I don't go to concerts as frequently as I did in the 80s/90s, so it is very rare that I meet anyone in person with similar music taste. The advent of the internet and subsequent introduction to fellow virtual fans has been the bees knees.
