Thought I'd start this thread as I hardly know anyone on here and it would be a good way to get to know some of the 1000+ members on the Garage Punk Hideout.

Anyway, I'll start.

I'm Bazza 37 years old from the North East of England and play the bass in the garage/psych band Thee Strawberry Mynde. I've been playing the bass now since I was 15 way back in 1985. I've played in a number of bands over the years and this is my second spell in Thee Strawberry Mynde as the band only reformed at the end of last year after originally splitting up in 1998.

As well as playing in bands I also DJ. Not so much in clubs these days but I do a monthly show for the internet station Mod Radio UK - http://www.modradiouk.net

I've been into garage music now since the mid 80s. The first garage band I really liked were The Prisoners and I still love the music that Graham Day is releasing. After The Prisoners I got into bands like The Creeps from Sweden and The Mourning After from Shefield before checking out 60s garage bands and became a big fan of bands such as Love, ? & The Mysterians, The Standells, Count Five, Music Machine, etc.

Another interest of mine is riding scooters. I've had 6 scooters since 1987 5 of them were Vespa's - V100, Sportique, 2 PX125's and a PX200. These days I ride a Bajaj Chetak which looks a lot like a 1960s Vespa but acts more like a Lambretta at it is always beaking down!

I have a MySpace page if anyone wants to add me - http://www.myspace.com/redstar_recordings

Hi Peter, I live in Cromer now, was born in Norwich. Yeah my boyfriend's friends used to do Thee Coffin Club! There isn't a lot but another friend runs Cave In which is a monthly pysch, beat, r'n'b etc night which is a bit of a hidden treasure! The Norwich garage scene is rubbish but we are hoping to do a small gig at Olives in july for my birthday and get the Higher State to play with a local band called Beast with a Gun, so keep your eyes peeled!

Hey Bazza. Winston Texas over in Cumbria here (50 this year). Good idea this post, you might want to check out this thread as it made me smile.

http://garagepunk.ning.com/forum/topics/how-often-do-you-meet-peopl... .

I haven't met one person round these parts who like this music who has even heard of surf except bizarrely an old lady in Lancaster who loved gogo dancing in the early 60's

I'm writing my own stuff under the AGENT TWANG!! name you'll find some of my tunes on my page. Been trying to put together a band for the last year without success but won't give up. Great that you have like-minded players to work with & looking forward to checking out your links. Cheers.

Hi Josephine,

I visit Norwich quite often, be great to go Cave In. My friends (the despondents)have played with Beast with a Gun. I DJ and play quite often at a monthly Garage night in Leeds called Bloodstains with my band The Sultones. There was a band recently from Norwich called Duke and his all drunk Orchestra (I think) Kinda like the Dead Brothers/Tom Waits etc. What are you're band called? if you ever want a gig Leeds way, let us know, cheers Pete.

My name is Tucker and I have been playing bass in garage rock band The Demon Beat for the past 6 years. We've toured a lot and put out several records during that time. I'm also in the alt-country band Prison Book Club, and the punk rock band NU, as well as just starting up my own project under the name of Bishops.

I've been running the indie label Big Bullet Records for the past 4 years now, and it's been a great experience. I'm here to check out some sweet music I may not know about, as well as spread any info I can on the West Virginia rock and roll scene to those who may be unfamiliar.

Hello there Everyone, I'm originally from Potsdam, (East) Germany but now live in Plymouth, UK. Ended up down here via Berlin, Scotland, Ireland, Oldenburg (GER) and a short stint in Nottingham. There's a nice little scene down here, big enough not to leave anyway and at near enough 31 I think I may just settle down. I'm not in a band and no intention to as can't make music to save my life (not even of the punk kind) so won't be pluggin my band now. I like music that's a bit messy or has an edge, though which usually falls into the Rock/Punk category of some sort and also 60s and 60s inspired music and other shtuff that I can dance or just jump around to like a looney, eg. ska. Love the Hideout but am still getting lost in here somehow, so much to discover. Looking forward to getting in touch with people on here more at some point. What else? Oh, like the total stereotype (not) ... I work in an office as an administrator ;)

new to this site and happy to be here.

I'm Steve currently living in Culver City. I started playing music in 7th (1976 or so) grade and never got over it. Most recently I played in a two man combo in Oly, WA with Matt Murillo from the Houston TX based Ka-nives and Jr. Varsity. In Oakland, CA the Beatcombers with Ron Silva from The Crawdaddys and countless other bands. Not so current I played in the Hi-Fives with John and Chris from the Ne'er Do Wells and what not.

In '97 I worked for Revolver, USA Music Distribution and one of the labels we distributed was Crypt. That's when my record collection grew and listed toward what it has become today.

But now I gotta go make dinner for my kids.

any links for ne'er do wells? had a tape years ago that i lost and have never been able to find anything since

Good idea starting this thread Bazza. I'm just learning my way around this site trying to figure out the best way to introduce myself and say "hi."

I've been playing guitar since the early sixties. Was part of 'the scene' back then but sort of dropped out for a time.  My story, if anyone is interested, was put together by Mike Dugo about a year ago (found here http://www.60sgaragebands.com/abstracts.html and here http://www.60sgaragebands.com/tiltonsmarket.html )  In any case I never stopped playing and writing; I just changed my focus and did it for myself, my family and a few friends.

Recent events with my `60s band The Abstracts (including the recent release of an album -- see here http://store03.prostores.com/servlet/uglythings/the-157/ABSTRACTS--... ) has reawakened me I guess -- made me aware that I am hardly alone in my musical tastes! And it is that, probably more than anything, that brought me here!

I'm looking forward to getting to "know" you folks here.  Thanks for listening. :)
