can anyone give us a potted history of the bands that flew the garage flag through out the wilderness years?

maybe break it down to early/late 80s and early/late 90s with suggested singles or albums.

beyond the gories, mummies and eternal stalwart billy childish my knowledge is a little lacking in this area.

From everything I ever heard from any 80s garage band the Chesterfield Kings gotta be the best that put out the most solid albums. Its impressive to me that the CFKings could nail the sound of the best 60s bands as well as they did. Check out the Steppes Harps and Hammers LP. Of course theres quite a few cool bands, but I think a long list would just add to the confusion. Don't overlook the Gruesomes.
... The SONICS (1st Garage band ever)

The Sonics are great and influential, but they don't really apply to this discussion thread relevant to "Key Garage Bands of the 80s/90s".

"re: ... The SONICS (1st Garage band ever)"

So many great bands during the 80’s/90’s.  The Mighty Caesars, the Cynics, and Gruesomes stand out for me.

I don't have much to add:

The Coyotemen

The Pandoras

Forgot the Superrock of The Fleshtones
the cheepskates were awesome too
The Compulsive Gamblers!

Don't know if the Del Monas were mentioned. And maybe doesn't really count, but the Damned as Naz Nomad & the Nightmares.

yeah - anything by greg cartwright :)

cool... Somebody once mentioned a band called the Nomads with Damned members in it to me and I wasn't sure for about that one. Did they do a full album or just a single?

Did one album and I think maybe a single or two of songs from the LP. Here's the Discogs entry for the LP:

Naz Nomad and the Nightmares - 'Give Daddy The Knife Cindy" LP
