Probably The Slickee Boys out of Washington DC area.....think that was on one of the Midnight Christmess LP's (on Midnight Records outta NYC) that came out in the late 80's/early 90's. Might also have been on one of their LP's.

oooppppss....I was mistaken...Slickee Boys actually play Hazy Shades Of Winter on that Midnight Christmess LP....sorry, got my Paul Simon songs mixed up...
Not sure if they did or not, but The Chesterfield Kings could've done live...they certainly did a great snots-ville version of The Mamas and the Papas' evergreen 'California Dreamin'. Hey Tex, if you do find who it was you were thinkin' of, please let me know...cheers - Lenny
The Dickies did quite a lively version of it. I had a live version of it on a compilation album, but believe they did it on vinyl as well. I was about 20 so shoulda been around 89-90. That might be the one your lookin for???
i guess not..this is very daerk and mod!! like the original but darker wuith bleeding fuzz in the back!
the way you describe it sounds very cool...i wanna hear it already

I was about to say the Bangles but that's the same song.

This is NOT a rock song! This version was very much like the original..soft..harmonies...and then that fuzz guitar sneaks in from the darkness...really good!!! who?? WHO?????????????????? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
On a related note, the Lemonheads do a cool version of Mrs. Robinson
Was it this?

No not at all.. the versioni am lookingh for sounds actually almost like s& g did an alternate take..almost the same..till the fuzz comes in..very cool original 60ties flavour!! HELPPP!!!
