Permalink Reply by Edroth on January 1, 2011 at 6:47pm When I think about it, the first 'garage' tune that got me onto rock'n'roll in general is Surfin' bird by the thrashmen. I heard it when I was 6 or 7, it was on a k-tel 'silly' songs comp. It was craazzzzy! Still my fav tune of all time! Then, I was a metal head for a looong time. The record that made me sell ALL my metal cd's (200 +) is 'Never been caught' by the Mummies. That record changed my life. period.

Permalink Reply by The Ohm on January 3, 2011 at 9:21am I think for me it was The cramps "Smell of Female." It's the first record I can remember setting me to look for old records/songs.
"Are You Gonna Be There" by The Chocolate Watchband!!!! So raw and dirty, instantly drew me in to garage. Then other standards like "You're Gonna Miss Me" 13th Floor Elevators and "Journey To The Center of the Mind" by the Amboy Dukes. Haven't looked back since and still love discovering new gems!
