The GaragePunk Hideout

Kicks just got easier to find.

I am always on the hunt for killer rock n' roll bands that I have yet to discover. Most weekends i search record bins or online for some tasty new or used vinyl to spin. So, what records are on heavy rotation on your sound system? Here are my top 3 records for this week.

1) The Points/ Maaster Gaiden split 7" (Big Action Records)

2) The King Khan and BBQ Show "Teabag Party 7" (Crypt)
3) Carbonas/ DieRotzz split 7"(Die Slaughterhaus Records)

Currently listening to -

'Soundtrack To The Daily Grind' by Graham Day & The Gaolers. I'm a big fan of Graham Day's first band The Prisoners as well as his other bands since then (The Gift Horses, The Prime Movers, Planet & The SolarFlares) and this new album is easily the best album to come out this year. It really kicks ass!

'The House Of Secrets' - The Direct Hits. Second album by this band which originally came out in the mid 80s. The CD features 7 bonus tracks. I'd forgotton just how good The Direct Hits were.

The Mourning After. A CD featuring the complete recordings of Sheffield's finest garage band The Mourning After. The CD also features 2 previously unreleased tracks. Nice to see that the band have now reformed and will be gigging again in 2008.

The "Hot Box" includes almost all studio versions and, yes, unreleased live versions! And it has a DVD! And mine has Ron Asheton and Niagara's autographs!!:D Chek out this site.

If you love them, it's worth getting! The problem is that it's expensive, haha.

Is that volume 1 or 2 of the Trojan Mod boxset?
Just picked up Volume 2 myself the other week. It was nice to see 'Heart Beat' by Ernest Ranglin finally get a CD release on the comp.

My first ever post on the Hideout, have no idea on how this weirdo board work, and truly mourns the death of garagepunk forums after being there for 4-5 years. Where's the b-film and bands in Europe boards? Isn't the Hideout some 'elitist' snob fest - or what? BTW I've never used myspace for anything than music, don't tell this is a myspace-look-at-my-cool-friends crap...

Whats on my turntable?

Forbidden Tigers : Magnetic Problems
The Butcher Shop : S/T
The Daily Void debut album
Nathaniel Mayer (w/Black Keys & Dirtbombs) : Why Wont You Give It To Me?
Cynics : Here We Are
Lightning Bolt : Ride The Skies
Functinonal Blackouts : The Servered Tongue For Everyone
Acid Mother Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. : S/T

Just checked out the Dogs vid and man oh man are you ever lucky getting to see The Dogs!! It's easily one of my fave songs from CD's that i've picked up lately....have a beer for me at the show!!!
Checked out the DAM stuff, little too pricey for me....i'll just have to keep diggin my old 7"'s and LP's and remember the time we saw them here in London Ontario way back around 1990....got to meet Ron, Scott and Niagara that nite and they were all super cool and nice people!!
Thanx for all the tips!

Yeah, that's volume 1.
I have a great version of 'Ali Baba' done by Jackie Edwards. I think it even out does John Holt's version.

Hmmm not sure how I feel about this new forum.
Or at least not sure I want to say how I feel out loud.

Anyway - recent finds/heavy listens:

The Strand - "Seconds Waiting" - Wasp 1982

... great Jam/Who influenced power pop by a DC area 3-piece,
a solid batch of melodic originals with a perfect guitar sound.

The Sword - Age of Winters - Kemado 2006

... caught these guys live last week on a whim, and picked up the album
at the show. Pure metal, but very catchy with some heavy heavy hooks.

Downliners Sect - Glendora - Columbia 1966

Had never heard this, their take on the Perry Como classic about love with
a department store mannequin. Awesome!

I actually have no playing experience. I can play some sloppy primitive drums and out of tune backing vocals.
