The GaragePunk Hideout

GaragePunk.com's Social Network

I am always on the hunt for killer rock n' roll bands that I have yet to discover. Most weekends i search record bins or online for some tasty new or used vinyl to spin. So, what records are on heavy rotation on your sound system? Here are my top 3 records for this week.

1) The Points/ Maaster Gaiden split 7" (Big Action Records)

2) The King Khan and BBQ Show "Teabag Party 7" (Crypt)
3) Carbonas/ DieRotzz split 7"(Die Slaughterhaus Records)

Yeah! They were very powerful! And "Slash Your Face" was awesome!!! I went to by my car, so I couldn't drink, but I had orange juice for you, haha. My fave tune on "Suburban Nightmare" is "GST 483", but they didn't play it! :( They played "The Class Of 1970"! (Maybe, the lyrics is great, right?) Also, a Japanese girls band called the Go-Devils played it, too. And the Dogs' members were watching it then, and they looked happy!
Yeah, but it includes a awesome unrelased tune of DAM! Scott? So, they are Dark Carnival. You were very lucky, too!!!

Recently got an order of all Norton's Christmas themed singles. Some really fun stuff on there - the KK&BBQ/Black Lips split is a fave, and there's a really great instrumental called Tipsy on the Kaisers' one (dunno if that's been released before, that's the first thing I've heard by that band). The Andre Williams 45 has a clean and dirty version of 'Poor Mister Santa' on either side, the latter of which is probably the filthiest thing I've ever heard him do - brilliant.

On the downside, there are two versions of Santa Claus is Coming to Town, which will never ever be a good song, and a 5678s single, who will never be a very good band.

The Strollers-Falling Right Down!
Top notch fuzz an farfisa tunes. There's some four chord stompers on ere that blow your backside out but also some way betta than average organ riffs.Yep i know i'm a little behind the times but until a few months ago The Creeps were the only band from that neck of the woods that i'd heard and rated.
I will be purchasing the follow up immediately.

The Kaisers have released some singles and one LP at least. "Whatcha Say?" is my fave.

The studio version is much better than this live version!

Did I say that The Marked Men's On The Outside release has been a constant on my stereo and MP3 player from the first time I heard it. Never tire of any of the songs.

Captain of my ship is the 2nd and last Strollers LP, much rawer in production, sounds like a rehearsal recording, but the songs arent as good. If you like Strollers then check out the Maharajas featuring the old singer from Strollers, also the Satans, Guiljoteens, Movements, Dee Rangers, Roadrunners, Maggots, Them Tyrants, The No Counts, all very 'swedish' sounding.

I only really rate The Creeps 1st album 'Enjoy'. The band seemed to go downhill fast once they signed to a major.

Sweden had a great garage scene back in the 80s. Back in the mid 90s Uppers Records put out 2 volumes of 'The Roots Of Swedish Pop' which are well worth looking out for. Volume 1 was entitled 'The Mod Years' but the pick of the two was the second volume 'The Garage Days'. It features bands from the 80s Swedish garage scene and includes 2 early recordings by The Creeps, Backdoor Men, Wylde Mammoths, High Speed V, Crimson Shadows, Stomach Mouths, Baby Snakes & Cornflake Zoo.

Jens the singer of the Creeps lives in the next street to me, I see him ocassionly at the corner shop, the drummer Patrick lives not too far either, sometimes see him at gigs, I think they all prefer the first LP too, they have reformed now playing mainly the 1st and some of the 2nd LP, havent seen em yet but heard good things.

That's great news that they are back gigging again. Any plans of a few dates in the UK? As I never got to see the band the first time round.

A few months back I picked up a copy of the Backdoor Men CD which is pretty good. I think the band included 1/2 of The Creeps line up.
