Greg Cartwright gets my vote.
Hmmm...a few come to mind:

Greg Cartwright
Arish Kahn
Beat-Man Zeller
Jay Reatard
I don't know that I dig on calling anyone important until at least a couple of generations have past.
I'm content to wait.

I do wonder, though... What criteria are you guys using for "Important?" To me, it would be the person who did the most to propagate the culture and may not be a musician at all.

(You could argue, for instance that Alan Freed or Dick Clark are the most Important figure in rock history.)

I think it's probably me.
Jay Reatard for me
Hey!!!! Dave Grohl gotta be right up there, or Nick Cave. Might be a bit commercial for you guys, but as 'The Dude Lebowski' says..... 'These Guys abide!!!'

I don't know if you are the most important garage rocker of the last decade Mole, but Yellow Glass Perspections surely is the most important LP! (And that was my brown-nosing moment of the day)
Jay Reatard was immediately the first person to come to mind before I really sat down to think about it. That speaks volumes.

I'd also agree with Gringo Starr's choice of Arish Khan. Completely inventive and very prolific. Also, Jack White was not a bad suggestion either.
Rudi Protrudi, no doubt.
That was a very nice thing to say!!
