Mine was "So What" by The Lyrics. That song opened up Pandora's Box for me and the ENDLESS psounds of the 60's garage rock underground. It continues today...
mine was a killer liar liar, not the castaways version, it was an instrumental version that used to get played at northern soul clubs here in the uk late 70s early 80s, still don't know who it by, perhaps someone here will enlighten me.
Mr Pharmacist,99th floor and My Little red book (the Love version); and Strychnine a year later- I already liked the Cramps version a lot;
The Nuggets double album set and 'I can only give you everything' by the Little Boy Blues;
all around '82, the year of Sex beat and Hour of degradation!
my buddy kicked me a copy of teenage shutdown when i was in a hardcore punk band with him.he told me to play fall of the queen by destiny's children first..ive been hooked since
Of course "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen was my first experience with thee wild sound, but I had no idea there was other shit out there on the same level until a friend of mine turned me on to the Sonics with the Wailers, Paul Revere, Mitch Ryder and Sam the Sham followin' in quick order.
Hearin' the Stones' "Empty Heart" helped me realize not all of this shit was super-underground either.
After years of adsorbing too much garagepunk (if there is such a thing), these groups still remain at the top o' my list!
i bought the witch by the sonics as a kid at a garage sale cuz i was into monster stuff & thought it was a monster record! it tore the top of my head off!!!
