Blunt – “Proud & Punk” It’s reheated ’77 punk with gang choruses, no more than three chords and English street punk vocals. “Proud & Punk" perfectly articulates the frustration, rage and dissatisfaction of the British working class with the British establishment during the late 70’s as if they were there. It’s easy to see how the band’s roaring energy, anchored with relentless full on rhythm guitar, no-nonsense drumming, and a singer that takes on the feel of the real fore-fathers of the British punk movement. I know it doesn’t sound especially innovative anymore, at this stage of the fashion show, but it’s not innovation, rather skillful assimilation and construction that counts with a band like Blunt.
Ex-Pat Punks Ian England and Johnny F formed Blunt in September 2006 with the main aim of re-introducing Californian punks to long forgotten, and even rarely played, proper Old School UK Punk.
Johnny got on the blower and secured the services drummer Ringo Fandango and Ian bumped into Skid Mark at a UK Subs gig in LA and invited them to a rehearsal.
In January 2007 a mini-tour of California and Nevada was played along with The Negatives from Bradford UK, and The Objex from Las Vegas as well as some other local Los Angeles bands.
Blunt’s first live performance was at the Fat Liver Tavern in Lomita, CA, and other venues played were in Downtown Los Angeles at The Airliner and at The Cocaine, along with The Brokeass Cantina and Khoury’s in Long Beach, and Las Vegas’s famous Double Down Saloon.
Blunt receive great feedback from punks of all ages, and have built an ever increasing fanbase in the Long Beach and LA areas.
Early in 2008 Skid Mark found it increasingly difficult to find the time to rehearse, write, and play with the band due to his work committments. Therefore, to continue the greatly increasing momentum the band have seen over this past year, an extensive search went out for a new guitarist. The Mad Brit fitted the bill perfectly and was invited to join Blunt.
Ian England - Vocals
Born and bred in Blackburn, East Lancashire, England. An original English Punk from the 70’s. Ex vocalist for The Boston Babies and a couple of other Punk bands. In ’77 he used to get kicked out of school for not wearing the correct uniform or some other shit......and would then get his ass down to King Georges Hall and help roadies for Punk bands playing there and get free tickets for his efforts. Favourite quote ’Seen it, done it, and got the preverbial fuckin t-shirt mate’. Is also famous for saying ’It’s your fuckin’ round’.
Johnny F - Bass & Vocals
From Stockport, Cheshire, England. As well as being ex-bassist for The Cheaters and part of a professional drinking team, Johnny likes to bang around on bass. This he does quite loudly and occasionally in time and or tune. Johnny has played in many a band, in fact one of his old bands was voted hardest working band in the UK, two years on the trot by Radio 1. Johnny quite often verges on the shy side of coherence, and has achieved world class recognition for incompetence, he continues to stand on those laurels.
The Mad Brit - Guitar & Vocals
The Mad Brit, started his Punk career in the saaaff (south) of England in 1978 as bassist with Curfew. In 1988, The Mad Brit came to California, and pretty soon after formed Shell-X, based out of LA and now playing lead guitar and lead vocals. Took a few years off during the 90’s to race motorcycles, competing in the Superbike class aboard 750cc Suzuki’s. Finally, the music bug bit again a couple of years ago and he joined Central California band Ellement playing alternative Rock. He quotes "Fuck that shite, now I’m back to my ROOTS with Blunt."
Ringo Fandango -Drums
Born in Coventry, Warwickshire. First learned to play drums while growing up in the good ole’ U S of A, but didnt really start to know what he was really doing until the age of 16 at school in Leicester, good olde Engeeeerland. Played for several years with the notorious Skin Patrol. They evolved into One Million Fuzztone Guitars, but he left to join seminal punk-funk band Medium Medium, constantly touring the U.S. and Europe for three years before splitting up in late 1983. Joined former Medium Medium and Pop Group members in the live and recording band for U-bahnX, an Anglo-German industrial-pop band signed to EMI. Went on to record and tour Europe with innovative world music-dance band C Cat Trance.Reformed Medium Medium in late 2004 for a series of U.S. shows, with a new recording project to be released in 2008.
STICKING TO OUR TRUE PUNK ETHICS WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR FIRST ALBUM IS BLOODY FREE !
Blunt were born out of the frustration and hatred of todays corrupt music industry. If you would like to book us please remember :
All those wankers calling themselves 'promotors', who peddle their promises of stardom IF you sell 100 tickets for them at a festival they are 'inviting' you to play at, can just do one. Fuck Off.
All the bar and club booking agents who never give a band a gig unless you guarentee 30 or more people turning up, can just do one too. Fuck Off.
And to all those record companies who dont give a fuck about their acts, and only give a fuck about how much money they make, can do one too. Fuck Off LEECHES.
We don't need you, our music and attitude is what we are about, and we don't give a fuck what you have to offer us. We will not have the piss taken out of us.
For us to play your venue you'll have to at least do the desent thing and offer us gas money especially if you are charging at the door ! If we like you we will probably do it for FREE anyway. So make us like you.
