Where do you live?
Toronto
Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
Born and bred Southerner who took off to the Great White North (beauty way to go, eh?) almost 10 years ago to get married. Still haven't gotten used to the cold and the snow. I HATE winter and snow and ice (unless it's in an adult beverage) and it was suggested I try to find a winter activity so I would have something to look forward to. I thought I'd try skiing and snowboarding but I find them to do nothing but provoke gut-wrenching terror. I can't stand hockey, which makes me about as popular as a syphilitic whore in Sunday School. So you know what I look forward to? JULY!!! I think the best winter activity is hunkerin' down with plenty o' bourbon and pots of my five-alarm chili - that'll take the cold out of a corpse!! I think the things I miss most are my friends (especially good ol' Sir Finksalott), sweet tea (you wouldn't believe what passes for iced tea around here), and good, cheap Mexican food (I am continually dumbfounded by the bland, overpriced mess that is Toronto Mexican food; Not in my worst nightmares did I ever imagine that a chimichanga w/ rice & beans would cost 15 bucks!! Of course, they don't really know what a chimichanga is and the beans are all canned garbage..)

I'm the clown responsible for the SHOUT BAMALAMA! Podcast - that's it filling yer earholes right now!

I started my own record label,BAMALAMA RECORDS because I needed to find ANOTHER way to throw money down the toilet. I have $5 t-shirts and free stickers & buttons if you want to help me waste more money.

I am an AVID "collector" of bourbon and have been known, on occasion, to actually drink the stuff. If you get me to talkin' about those corn squeezins, there's a good chance I will talk your ear off BUT if you're willing to listen, I am MORE than willing to share!

I have no patience for bullshit, backstabbing, whining, or lying. I'm straight up with everybody and expect the same in return. If you can't afford me that respect, stay the fuck away. I ain't got time for your horseshit.

Playing rock n roll keeps me off the rooftops popping off passers-by with a high powered rifle. Guitar is actually my weapon of choice - I have 4 that I love like children - black Squier Musicmaster, Epiphone Les Paul TV Reissue with vintage p-90 pickup, 1965 Kent Americana hollowbody, and a 1960 Harmony Stratotone Mercury H47 (hey, if it was good enough for Brian Jones and Dave Davies....).

I've got a 15 year old son, Dylan, who's a budding guitar slinger and drummer. We've also got a little one, Declan Padraig, born on May 1.

Favorite Music:
As far as styles go, I dig 50s R&B/black rock n' roll & 60s/70s punk the most, though I pretty much like a little bit of everything (EXCEPT RAP - BARRRFFFF!!!!).
Specific groups/performers that have had the most profound and/or influential effect upon me are the Ramones, The Clash (Joe Strummer is a continual inspiration to me and even close to 30 years on, London Calling is still in regular rotation in my house, my car, work...), The Stones, The Sonics, Everly Brothers, The Beatles (pre-LSD hippy crap), Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Screamin' Lord Sutch, The Stooges, Otis Redding, Jerry Lee Lewis, Nick Lowe, The Kingsmen, Hound Dog Taylor, Them, Little Richard, Ska & Bluebeat (too hard to pick any one group or performer), Link Wray, Bobby Fuller 4, The Replacements, The Pogues, The Dubliners, Real Kids, Frank Sinatra, Dixieland jazz, bebop & hardbop (I can't live without a solid dose of early Miles, Coltrane, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Monk, & Mingus; this ain't an inclusive list by any means- I loves me some bop!), Soul Jazz ("Brother" Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Bill Doggett, Jimmy Smith, Cannonball Adderly, Lee Morgan, & Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis are some faves), Rockabilly (mostly original stuff but there are some contemporary bands I quite like), Surf (Gary Usher, Eddie & The Showmen, The Belairs, The Galaxies {my pop's band circa '62}, The Trashmen, The Lively Ones, The Ventures, Fender IV, Avengers VI, The Astronauts, The Challengers, The Pyramids, The Tornadoes), Bo Diddley, Big Star, The Cramps, Booker T & The MGs, 13th Floor Elevators, X, Sam & Dave, Eddie Cochran, Social Distortion, farfisa and fuzz-driven garage punk (Back from the Grave, Nuggets, Pebbles, etc), The Misfits, The Velvet Underground, Jason & The Scorchers (taught me at a young age that country could be cool... I count myself fortunate that I grew up in a city with a band like this), Circle Jerks, Gun Club, The Kinks, Slim Harpo, Johnny Cash, The Animals, Elvis Costello, Chet Baker, Buck Owens, The Crystals and The Ronettes (and pretty much ALL Girl Group sounds), NY Dolls, Dead Boys, Black Flag, Howlin' Wolf, Sex Pistols, Bubblegum, Cheap Trick, Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers, Pretty Things, Flamin' Groovies...Hell, this is really hard. There are many more I can't really think of now but I'm sure I'll add them later.
Favorite Movies:
Universal and Hammer horror flicks (but Karloff is the best Frankie), ANY Godzilla flick (or any of the Japanese giant monster movies... who am I kidding - ANY giant monster/insect/beast movie!!), Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead (and pretty much ANY zombie flick), The Creeping Flesh, ALL of Kurosawa's films, The Ghost Of Dragstrip Hollow, The Girl Can't Help It, AIP Biker Flicks, God Told Me To, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, The Ipcress File, Funeral In Berlin, The Invisible Invaders, Mad Monster Party, Phantasm, Animal House, Danger:Diabolik, The Blues Brothers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (orignal and Pt. 2), Repo Man, Godfather 1 & 2 (Part 3 can kiss my ass), Dr. Strangelove, Lolita (Kubrick's version), Killer's Kiss, Death Rides A Horse, Goodfellas, The Killing, Corman's Poe flicks, The Conqueror Worm (AKA Witchfinder General), The Abominable Dr. Phibes, House Of Wax, Theatre of Blood, The Tingler (or any number of other Vincent Price movies), Blood Simple, Raising Arizona (and truthfully, almost ALL of The Coen Bros. films with a couple of recent exceptions), The Sorcerers, Panic In Year Zero, Maniac (1980), The Incredible Mr Limpet, The Ghost and Mr Chicken, The Red Baron (AKA Von Richthofen and Brown), Plan 9 From Outer Space, Blackboard Jungle, The Fly (1958), An American Werewolf In London, MOST of Russ Meyer's flicks, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (and almost every other Leone flick), film noir ( just can't name any one - I love almost all of them, though I have been digging the hell out of "Kiss Me Deadly" recently), 70s crime flicks (again, how can I name just one? I suppose "The French Connection" and "Charley Varrick" will always hold a special place in my heart since I saw them at the drive-in when I was a kid), Pulp Fiction, Lost Weekend, Days of Wine & Roses, BARFLY, Rock and Roll High School...That's enough for now.

Hey Count Brockula. I know you like surf/psychobilly/punk, so maybe you would like "The Chris Farr Band". It's on the podsafe network - if you can find a place for it in a show, that'd be cool. Please give us a listen. By the way, I'm from Toronto (actually Peterborough). Cheers.

Join this group if you have, are a member of, or in any way represent a band or musical act of some kind. This is a good place to talk about gear and recording, too!
