I am a musician and recording studio owner from Seattle Washington.

Favorite Music:
Mostly older stuff, but I also like film soundtrack stuff, acoustic blues, old country, banging on pots & pans, jangle-y 12 strings, howling, screetching and growling stuff too. Old R&B, Rock & Roll and anything with a Hammond Organ in it. The list goes on.
Favorite Movies:
David Lynch's "Eraserhead" and Richard Elfman's "The Forbidden Zone" along with too many AIP films to list here. Sergio Leone's "Dollars Trilliogy" tops my list along with many Stanley Kubrick films and all the (original) Planet of the Apes series too. Bad films are Great! I also do soundtrack work as well.

Fall 2009 San Francisco Bay Area Tour Blues!

I am bummed. I had to cancel my mid Oct 2009 Bay Area "Mini Tour" from Oct 14 to 18th because I lost some dates and couldn't find any replacement dates for Oct 15th in the North Bay and 17th in Santa Cruz. It sucks, but it is done.

I'll hit the Road again in Spring 2010!

See y'all then!

The Old Days of Seattle Indi Radio (pre Paul Allen!) KCMU 90.3 FM!

A long time before Grunge and the Dot Com Boom/Bust made Seattle what it is today (YUCK!!) There was KCMU 90.5 (later 90.3) FM. It was a true community radio station (owned by the UW) It got me through Highschool and College. Someone sent me this archive they posted here;

http://kcmu.jc-coleman.com/

Sadly other folks had their (hidden) agendas and folks kinda took what they had for granted. I was a "Johnny come lately" to this environment, but I learned a lot and met a lot of interesting folks… Continue

hey man, i seen a lot of your posts on recording, and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions? I have a home studio thats just in one largish upstairs room at my parents house, and I'm trying to make old soul/ r'n'b recordings that have a real vintage vibe about them. You can check out my page www.myspace.com/chickadeerecordings , listen to the song mean man, its basically the style we are going to be playing. I like the quality of it, but I'm wondering if there are any hints you could give me so that I may achieve the sound I'm pursuing. I'm going for a basically a stax/old motown/ new orleans/ james brown sound, I record my drums using 2 beringer pencil mics as overhead, kick miced with some cheap peavey mic. I also own 2 akg mics, one small, and one large condenser mic. I always record my drums and any other live off the floor tracks into a 1978 akai tape casette recorder, hen i convert that into digital, and do everything else digital using a ART tube preamp for my close micing, and a beringer omni mic run direct into my mBox. Im having problems getting the kick to come out, and maby with the attack on the snare. I want more of these, but I always have found that less is more in my recordings. Im looking for a sound thats between hi fi and lo fi, any suggestions?

Keep rockin Erik. Having your own studio does ease the creative process, and I should know, I get to record at my family's studio for free. However,I do end up doing alot of yardwork....

I am gonna miss BeccaBear here at the Hideout! (she excused herself from things) I hope things will simplify themselves here soon so we don't loose other long term folks due to stuff like that.

I also heard the GP Forum is not doing PMs anymore. I cleared my box out a month ago,but still it is sad to know that a major avenue of communications has been closed.

Yeah JP, I understand, but since like Dave Lister of Red Dwarf says, " I only got two working taste buds left and one of them works on spicy hot foods."

While down in Portland Oregon the last few days I had some good Thai food in the Hawthorne section of town.

No habeñeros were injured!
