S.F. Sorrow, and the Art of the Story Driven Album

To many, the Rolling Stones are the prevalent "bad boy's" of 60's rock n' roll.  Their hair was long, they drove girls into fits of screeching madness, and they played "black" music in a time when those of African decent were still archaically --and wrongly-- considered second class citizens. The Stones may have eclipsed many great musical acts of the 60's as their fame grew to epic proportions, however the legacy of these less than famous bands has been preserved through the diligent…

Just putting this out there for all you fellow freaks, but I was wondering how y'all feel about the way in which bands of higher caliber always seem to fly below the proverbial raydar? It seems almost a slight on pop cultures taste, as it has continued to slide into the murky depths of bad pregenerated pop and pompas, over produced, under thought, rap "music". Gone are the days of good music flowing on the charts and surfing on the radio waves, and thank Lucifer for sites like this that help to… Continue

commercial music will always (with rare exceptions) run to crap as it is produced to make money and appeal to the mass audience - an attempt to be popular rather than good.....
remember that fully 50% of the world is below fucking normal...

higher quality art of any kind by its very nature will always be below the radar - the masses and mass media is where the $$$ are; in high volume - the marketeers will target them, hence the airwaves, and the tastes of the masses of sheep called 'popular culture' eternally run toward bread and circuses -
its that 'lowest common denominator' thang - like mcdonalds food.
i for one hope we stay below the radar... even in the heyday of the music we here like ( like the sixties) the airwaves were dominated by commercial music - think hermans hermits, the monkees, paul revere and the raiders....

Hey dude thanks for listening! Sorry for the late reply, I just got back from Montreal.
Stay tuned for more cool beats in the future!
BTW, I think Lethbridge is a nice little city...not much for music though.

What we mean by "favorite GaragePunk Podcast" is the lineup of shows available on the GaragePunk Podcast network: www.garagepunk.com (you know, the podcast that this social network was created for... er, or maybe you DON'T know). There is also this handy podcast jukebox where you can play through the most recent 20 shows. Once you've checked 'em all out, maybe you can actually pick one of those!

Tropic of Cancer/Delta of Venus

I believe I am posting way too much but without all the fistfights and kids jumping out of (1st floor)  windows because of summer break I am a bit bored. Anyway, there was a Henry Miller discussion in this group recently and while watching After Hours for research purposes last night Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller came up. I took that to be a bit of a sign. The most impressive thing about Henry Miller was his ability to riff on any given subject for five minutes or five hours at a time.…See More
