I'm glad you enjoyed. I heard it for the first time 5 years ago and I was amazed that there was a version that incorporated that riff (and at a breakneck pace). It was recorded in 1964 a year or two before the Kinks version.
OK I was dead wrong about Howlin' Wolf's original version of Hidden Charms. I guess I never heard it before. I would have thought Link Wray's would have been based on that. But anyway, the Kinks really didn't come up with that riff but they slowed i…
Yeah, I’ve heard the Elvis version. Scotty Moore’s instrumental version too. They both sound more rockabilly. The Kinks' arrangement seems different to me. Maybe they just cranked up the fuzz. This version seems to be the standard other acts have fo…
If you ever hear Elvis' version of Milkcow Blues, that riff is going through that version as well though at a very frantic pace. I think Howlin' Wolf took that riff from many of the country versions he heard and slowed it down. Not sure though as he…
Agreed.
The only Link Wray that seems to qualify in any way is Hidden Charms - which is neither an instrumental, nor does it feature Wolfman Jack. It does however showcase Link doing his best Howlin’ Wolf impression. You can throw this track into t…
I like the mix its sound raw and exactly how I would have done it! Not too keen on that solo though. We were listening to it just shortly before Jay left and we both thought it sounded alright as it was actually. The little bit extra after the 1st verse is a welcome restbite and gives the solo more impact later on. So I would take that bit out and just leave it as it is. Mix sounds pretty good already tho to me!
We've got a full album coming out on Headless Spectre Records. Were of to record it soon at Toe Rag in early Jan. Then we should be touring the states. As the labels based in LA. Exciting!
Guitarist in a band called The Frenzies and an instromental project band. Love all kindsa garage punk particularly fuzzed up 60s stuff, lots of instromental music. Love trash garage punk too, and tons of other stuff that doesn't fit under the garage umberella.
As above, love all the pebbles and nuggets & back from the grave stuff. Love The Monks, Stooges, Black Lips, Mummies, Cramps, Norton Records, Reigning Sound, Oblivians, Creation...you get the idea.

Show #258: "The Eggman Collection #75"
Every 3 weeks I do a series of shows called The Eggman Collection, which originally was an old tape/cd collection of songs that I like. Now since I have little time due to work and stuff, I made it into a radi…
