that Creepy Face Maestro clone sounds perfect for this type of music. I can see how some people used to modern fuzz pedals would be unimpressed with a Maestro type, but on all those classic garage records (BFTG etc) that's what they were suing and it sounds great on those records. The lack of sustain and buzz tone seem to be important factors. I may have to get Brad to make me one of those hybrid Ge/Si pedals...or something primitive sounding. We're using a digital mulitrack recorder. it's not mine, so i don't know too much. But once we had a good set up, with 3 mics, we could do mulitple takes of a song and decide later which is the best one...

we re-recorded about 9 songs today. All live in the same room (no vocals yet)
with new drummer, my buddy, Phil, who's a way better drummer.
kelli was on drums, now she's singing...hopefully i'll have a rough mix given to me next Sun. when we continue.
Last time we were in separate rooms, but still live (with headphones) i didn't like it, cause synching up with each other was goofy.
we're gonna do "You Should Never Have Opened That Door" (60's style) if they ever figure out that weird beginning (riff goes inside the drum beat, so weird)...Tommy just plays it straight, but the riff is so knucklehead it's genius! I have the intro riff figgered out but the bassist can't wrap his head around it yet. (he hammers it out squarely by adding an extra beat, which is ok, but it stretches it out, and not as economically cool as the original. we must get it right!! :?
today i used the D*A*M 1965 on a bunch of tunes, and a Maestro FZ-1S on a few, tried an old Meathead i acquired recently (it's an early one, #15) with a super heavy bass...it's a bit modern for this band, so i bagged it after one take. still, a cool pedal...i used a keeley java boost (Range Master type) OC44 for On Fyre by The Lyres...it sounds good on that one...Dragonfly is gonna build me an Orpheus clone (similar to FUZZrite) ...as a trade for a Boss Hyper Fuzz (was gonna sell it anyway)...he's gonna do it custom strip board and i chose a black and dark green swirl...looks cool. Green Fuz!!!
i still haven't delved into the Joe Meek box set i got months ago.
i keep seeing it there sitting on an amp in my room, thinking how great it must be, but it's kind of daunting in it's massiveness.

i'm gearing up for the day...haha.
maybe christmas

Thanks, man! The songs turned out not bad. i actually didn't know that song, Mark & Silvie suggested it (guitar & vocals), after hearing the Detroit Cobras covered it (as Bad Girl)...i love her voice, btw. Funny though, cause my friends in Nashville (ex band mates) are friends with Greg, but i never met him when i was there. Those rough mixes are OK, but something sounds weird, constantly swirly/wah/phaser type sweeping, which is louder than the drums. They're gonna lower the vocals, but i need to be there next time to hear it too i think. I have pretty good mixing ears.

Yeah, i sent my EP-1 to Mike Battle in 2002. I think he did a good job, but he was getting up in years then. He sent it to the wrong address, i scrambled down the block..."did you get a package today?" and instead of the original thumbscrews he sent it back with these flat head screws with a washer soldered vertically on the top! haha. i called him and had him send me the originals...Anyway, i can't remember what was wrong with it, don't think it was a bad motor, just needed a general going-over. Too bad he's no longer with us, and i don't know who to refer you to, but if i hear of anybody I'll let you know...
