Thatcher and Punk Rock

Everyone knows that the first UK punk groups pre-dated Margaret Thatcher's rise to Prime Minister.  Once she took power, though, and set the agenda, it seemed to rejuvenate and radicalize a second wave of bands. Probably Crass's screed against the Falklands War was the most directly confrontational, but what were some of the other well-known British political punk groups/songs of the era?   See More

Word to American voters

Particularly those in Iowa, North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Colorado and especially Ohio: Since you're on this list, you already know that we're down to the wire in a very close campaign. I'm not endorsing or opposing anyone, but just urge y'all to maybe turn off the stereo for a few weeks, read up on the candidates and their positions, watch the debates, be wary of cable pundits on both sides and, most important, vote your conscience as well as your economic…See More

Pussy Riot found guilty, sentenced to two years

"Three members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot have been convicted of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, over a protest in a cathedral."http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19297373By the time this is posted, it'll be old news to most of you, but maybe not to all. I've read that rallies are being held in NYC and other cities. If anyone's aware of an online petition drive, please let us know. - RickSee More

Andre Williams/the Conquerors tonight (7/6) in KC

AW's a legend and should be seen (to be believed, if for no other reason). Sorry for the late notice for those who didn't know. For those who did and were expecting the Minneapolis Conquerors who recorded for Get Hip several years ago, they're not. These Conquerors are KC-based and apparently harbor a garage-psych bent.$10 at the door.http://holdmyticket.com/event/116702See More

BritRock @ the White House

Seems some people in the UK are embarrassed that Mumford & Sons were chosen as the entertainment for the White House's state dinner with David Cameron. A columnist at The Telegraph wrote, "Where once we sent the Americans the Beatles, the Stones, the Who and David Bowie, now we can only extend to Mumford & Sons... Imagine the bemusement of senior members of the White House team forced to watch Mumford & Sons play. Only a few weeks ago they were hosting a sizzling White House blues…See More

Yes, Rick, friend requests are a pretty normal thing on social networking sites. It's how you build your network. And yes, being active on the site shows me you're here for more reasons than just grab some free music and split.

Welcome to the Hideout, Rick. First off, please read the Network Guidelines page for a few simple rules to follow. Then, to help you find your way around and get started, I recommend taking a few minutes to read this introductory guide. It should do a good job in giving you a better idea of what all is available to you here. Hopefully you'll like what you find and keep coming back for more, because that's what it's all about. Cheers!
