Hi Sumiji,

You probably saw it on the homepage, but if you haven't, the new Mushi Mushi podcast might be right up your alley.

Oh, you're welcome. As you get further into the music, you'll probably be leaving all sorts of goodies for me to hear. I don' t have the Golden Cups reish so I can't give an opinion on that. Probably not disappointing given we like what we've already heard. There's another called Japan Go Go Groups that spans maybe '64 to '69. The Spiders are showcased in a movie with other Japanese groups called Wild Scheme A-Go-Go. Haven't seen this yet, but I will track it down at some point.

Those are some great stories you have there. I don't know if I'd have the courage to get behind the scenes. How exciting though. I didn't know of the 5, 6, 7, 8's until Pulp Fiction. Sometimes Guitar Wolf is a bit too heavy for me. This is usually the case with alot of the 80's revival bands. There's still no denying all the talent there though and I can appreciate that.

I live in a very small town with no scene. There is more stuff going on in big cities like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the Harrisburg/York area or New York. I'm hours away in distance from all those places. I do go to shows where & when I can, but to find something cool or worthwhile to do every weekend would require traveling. Sadly, I'm a loner when it comes to what I like compared to what my friends are into. If they haven't heard of a band it's like pulling teeth to get people to check anything out. Luckily I can get my fix here and there, by myself if I have to. It's nice to have these outlets online too because you can always find places with people who have similar interests in common.

Oh yes! I like Ox, the Spiders, Mops, Jacks! (psych) and of course, Guitar Wolf. You won't find the Golden Cups on the GS I Love You and GS I Love You Too comps, but you will find them on Japanese Wild Favorites with the Jaguars and a few other bands. Maybe start with those. The Blue Comets are still performing and always sound so moody and incorporate the flute and sax, too (purist warning). Definitely check out youtube because there is alot of Japanese 60's bands footage there. Was the Beatles show over there the catalyst for all of this? They say the Tigers opened for the Beatles and were the first Japanese "garage" labeled band. Not sure though. I guess the 5, 6, 7, 8's are a throwback to the 60's, too.

Thanks Sumiji. I'll check 'em out. Was wondering if the music is all instrumental so it definitely made me want to hear more and find out. I have a few Japanese comps and most of the time I don't even care that I don't understand the language.

Kind regards, Julia
