It's not often that you come across a band that truly does not give a fuck these days, but The Parents are one of those rare finds.
Forget your middle of the road typical indie band who don't dare venture from sitting on the fence for fear of disapproval, this Derby quintet are pure filth.
Boasting dirty riffs and even dirtier vocals, The Parents are an orgy between the loud, sexed-up noise of MC5 and The Stooges, injected with the raw attitude of the Pistols, plus the sarcastic whit of Dead Kennedys.
Each song is memorable to say the least. Each ridiculous in its own way, yet so logical, with unforgettable guitar hooks and laugh-out-loud lyrics. Fronted by Sebastian Vulva, the notorioriety of The Parents is amazing- If you don't love them you hate them, but either way, everybody knows who the fuck they are.
There are no rock stars in this band. As soon as they hit the stage you can tell that it is something different. Raw. Unpredictable. Outrageous. Nothing is to be unexpected. Furthermore you can never quite guess what prop will accompany Vulva on stage, from a bowl of cornflakes (with milk of course!), to a brick, to a 4ft dildo, of which he claims to have found in his mother's bedroom!
The Parents do their thing, loud and fast, then fuck off. No self endulgent encores or lapping up of the applause, they just vanish, leaving behind nothing but blaring feedback ringing with the essence of true rock and roll and a room full of very strong opinions. Whether they be positive or negative, everyone in that room will have one, and EVERYONE will be talking about what they just witnessed on the way home.
Not recommended for the easily offended, there is nothing like this band, and with somewhat of a cult following beginning to emerge it seems that that is a fucking good thing.
I have seen this band play countless times and not once have they played to anything but a full room. No fakes here, just true bastard rock and roll.
glad you enjoyed the "dice" cd's - i always play them when i'm feeling down. a bit of offence, depravity and hatred always seems to lift my spirits too. i'm also pleased you found the movie trailers handy. anyway, episode 5 of WAY PAST COOL is coming soon and "fuckfest at tiffanys" HAS to be on there... so keep 'em peeled!
