About Me:: The Swipes, founded in 2007, produce a sweeping sound which is quite unique. The strongest roots of their music lie deep in the swingin’ sixties and in the work of 70’s protopunk, punk and post-punk protagonists like The Stooges, the Jam or The Clash. But their playing techniques are pretty up-to-date. As a result, the German four-piece has developed an individual style of garagepunk & surf‘n’roll, spiced with sparkling powerpop and a lusty dose of ska and reggae. They classify this blend as 'New Garage'. The Swoons, a forerunner project of The Swipes, were frequently played by John Peel, the legendary British radio DJ. The Popzillas, another precursor project, made TV appearances and gigs all over Europe, amongst others in Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club.

Favorite Music:: 60's garage, acid punk, rock & roll, mod, surf, powerpop, punk, ska, reggae and neo garage. Some of our favourites: The Urges, The Cynics, The Maggots, Dead Moon, Billy Childish, The Staggers, The Cramps, The New Christs, The Hives, The Von Bondies, The Mooney Suzuki, The Boss Martians, The Raveonettes, The Detroit Cobras, The Fuzztones, Miracle Workers, The Brood, The Pandoras, The Nomads, The Broken Jug, Crimson Shadows, The Stomach Mouths, Vietnam Veterans, The Sick Rose, Marshmallow Overcoat, Patti Smith Group, The Clash, The Stooges, The Sonics, The Electric Prunes, The Painted Ship, The Human Expression, The Standells, 13th Floor Elevators, Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd (and many others, of course).
