Figures Of Light - Smash Hits [Norton 2008]

It's hard to imagine a band releasing one single in 1972 that barely saw the light of day, let a lone a record store shelf, and managing to come back some 35 years later with something interesting to offer. But, you don't need to listen to the Figures Of Light for very long to realize they're not your average early 70's rock combo. In 2005 Norton records continued in a tradition shared by the likes of Tim Warren (Crypt records and "Back From the Grave " ) and the late Greg Shaw (Bomp! records an… Continue

5 Things I Can't Wait To Hear

1. The Figures Of Light - Smash Hits (Norton 2008)

2. Chants R&B - S/T (?) (Norton 2008)

3. King Khan - It’s A Lie/Congratulations I’m Sorry (Norton 2008?) (I'm expecting something similar to his single on the KK and Jacuzzi Boys split.

4. "Hello Denver, I'm Bob Log the 3rd, and I'm gonna rock your fucking faces off!"

5. "Since it has taken us so long to mail your check we're going to send you $1200 instead of $600" - The I.R.S

The Urges - "Psych Ward" [Off the Hip]

Debut full-length by Dublin, Ireland's manic garage/punk quintet The Urges. Recorded in the all analogue studio of Circo Perrotti in Gijon, Spain with Jorge Explosion on production duties (Billy Childish, The Cynics), Psych Ward (Off The Hip 2007) is a savage energy filled ode to the earliest days of punk. Paying homage to underground heroes of the 60's like the Seeds, Q'65, and 13th floor Elevators, and following i… Continue

I had a blast too. John Wesley Myers, just had to look that up, but he is great...... i love those sad longing love songs they do. He is so genuine and you know he's not up there bullshitting or posturing or whatever. it's real deal rock n roll. What was that medley they did? ended up with Search and Destroy but started where?

OK, true. That was back when I was considering making GaragePunk.com more than just a podcast vehicle. I'd considered having a "staff" of reviewers that could review new records as they're released. But I had no interest. No one wanted to do it. So I shelved the idea. I thought doing something like that might make the site more appealing to visitors, offering something more than just the podcast... so, I dunno. We could still post reviews, but the blog isn't really designed for that now that we've been hosting the podcast there for over three years, which is why I think posting reviews here on the Hideout might be the best option. Now, *where* to best do that is a very good question... it's one I haven't really faced before because you're the first person to ask me about it. For the past year or so, I thought individual blogs would be the natural place to post that sort of stuff, but you may be right in suggesting that we have one separate area (group, forum, whatever) where people could go to read them. So in that respect, I think you may be onto something. Maybe a new group is the right answer. I suppose we could start one and see how it takes off, and if there's interest from others in posting reviews, then they could join it, too. What do you think?
