Bio:
I've been heavily obsessed with Psychotronic (tm) films and outta control weird music since childhood. Since then my actual life has taken on a distinctly weird Addams-family-esque B-movie drive in flavor.

All the people I know are musicians, beatniks, hillbillies etc.

I've worked in chemical laboratories most of my career but I have designed album covers, print ads, and wrote copy.

GETTING INTO HEAVEN (1970)

D/W: Edward L. Montoro

More Something Weird stupidness with Uschi Digard who seduces a nerdy nervous cop, romps naked in fields and screws an old guy. "Heaven" in the title is her character's name. Get it?

THE NIGHT VISITOR (1971)

Max Von Sydow makes a daring escape from a mental institution (and then sneaks back in) in order to frame the people who framed him for a murder that landed him in there. He sneaks into a wimpy doctor's house…

WOMEN'S PRISON MASSACRE (1982)

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 9:34pm 0 Comments

I just saw this in a theater on the big screen in 2012 (!?) Three very Italian-looking tough hussies do a Dadaist theater piece. The butch Albina heckles them, throws tomatoes and starts a big prison brawl. There's lesbian shower scenes (as required by statute 43:3425 of the exploitation code) where modern audiences are treated to the sight of actual female pubic hair (now as extinct as the Tyrannosaurus Rex) The guards wear what look like Italian fascist-era tab collar black uniforms, yet…

THE FRANKENSTEIN FILES: HOW HOLLYWOOD CREATED A MONSTER (1999)

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 9:24pm 0 Comments

This 45 minute documentary doesn't have a whole lot of new revelations and seems to have been quickly slapped together to cash in on the release of Gods and Monsters. There are interviews with Sarah Karloff and Dwight Frye's son. If you didn't know about the influence of German expressionism on the Frankenstein series or that Bela Lugosi was originally tapped to play the monster then this might have something for you. Apparently Mary Shelly's book was adapted into a few…

MICKEY ONE (1965)

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 9:19pm 0 Comments

It's been called "the best movie Warren Beatty ever starred in." It's a very arty and well done almost surreal crime story about a drunk comedian from Detroit who wakes up and finds out he owes the mob an unspecified but really huge sum of money. He runs, becomes a hobo and ends up in Chicago. In a junkyard he sees some bums beating up a guy and snatches his social security card. He seemingly gets chased by crushed cars and machinery as a cop narrates about how you can dispose of a body. He…

THE RAVEN (2012)

Posted on July 18, 2012 at 7:40am 0 Comments

The great John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe and the plot straight outta Theater of Blood! This doesn't have a whole lot to do with the poem. It's about a serial killer recreating Poe's own stories--"Murders in the Rue Morgue", "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar", "Masque of the Red Death" etc.

The Baltimore Police pull him in on the investigation and, like From Hell there's a lot of 19th century forensics and more than a few iffy but cool leaps of logic.  The killer…

SPORTS AND DISCO DO NOT ENTER MY UNVERSE. GOOD MAN.

I see you placed a tm by "Psychotronic" , so , you know the score. As I say , Michael Weldon is a real pleasant person.

He's not bitter , like so many of his peers. But , it's impossible to cover , in detail , every film that deserves to fall undr the banner. His work made me want to seek out things he did and did'nt cover in the past.

Oh man, losing Mark was such a bummer. I'm sure the axe will prove an inspiration.

Obviously, y'all and we need to lead a revival in Cola. We actually started as a surf band -- our guitarist played on the Florida circuit in the 60s. (That's one of the funny things about us -- we range in age from 64 to 21). There really is _no_ original scene in the Berry; we've played local festivals, college-related gigs, and Newberry's "concert in the park" series, but never a bar. Very strange.

Hey ZacharyThax,

Thanks for the kind words -- "Garden Girl" is one I wrote. We're actually looking to start gigging in Cola early next year -- we're looking at an upcoming New Music night at New Brookland (our keyboardist is there tonight for Explorers Club). I'll keep you posted on that, or if you'd like to split a bill, we'd certainly be glad to talk about opening.

As for me, The Berries are the only band I've been in down here. I played in some metal, alt-rock, and janglepop bands in Cincinnati and in Lexington, KY in the 80s/90s, but the academic career is almost all I've done since I moved here. Stay in touch!

Hello!

It's been work work work here, as well as being married to academia. I'm currently preparing to write my master's thesis, which incidentally is going to be about Southern Gothic literature and gender.

What else has happened? I have moved to a different apartment, finished one degree, started on another, and had three different jobs. I seem to be going out once every few months rather than once a week. In two days, I will be halfway to 48, and I am beginning to feel it.

Hey ZT - I just got back myself fron Fla, and Norcal. Woggles are in Japan, King Khan plays (or palyed) here soon, Tiger! Tiger! is tonight at The Earl. From what I can tell in my limited time back, there has been an almost complete changing of the guard. Bound to happen, and it's good to see some younger faces give the scene a kick in the pants. The old guard is still here, but seems to be playing a lot more infrequently. Ah, well, a little less time at the bar never hurt anyone .... really, it ain't that bad ...

Hey man...we know each other. I used to work at Intermezzo. I think you were a regular.

Rock. I love how I leave Cola-Town and then a Psychotronic film society starts up. We have one in D.C., but it is on Monday nights in Alexandria and it's hard to get all the way over there from NW DC in time.
