Social Media... what a bore..
So recently I have decided to stick to my guns and try and remain the "ole-fashioned" gal that I once was. When I was a teenager (about 10 years ago), boy was I extreme. I had extreme hatred for basically everything "mainstream". That meant television, cars, large corporations and any shit they were trying to sell me...etc. Now as an adult I have learned it is somewhat difficult to live without certain things and raise a functioning family.
I took a trip to Las Vegas at the beginning…

Old Punk on Hope - Garage on a Tuesday AM, Down Under
Couldn't believe I found this online. Who'd have thunk it, right? Slickee Boyes and KH. As I recall, this song was supposedly written when Kenne was on guard duty (?) in the Marines. Ah, the armed forces at work.
What better on a Tuesday am -- too many days 'til Friday after all. Haven't had my coffee yet today, but at least I've listened to some good tunes at the…

Old Punk on Hope - Fuck, I've got another blog?
Well, it was bound to happen. I have 2 work-related blogs that don't allow for my musings on music, past, present and future, so I'm diggin' having a little corner in the Hideout to type out such things.
It's all Thee Gravemen's fault I found the Hideout -- if I hadn't sent a thumb's up to Dirty Water Records, it might have taken me even longer to find GPH. And once I got onto the DWR FUbook page, I couldn't stop clicking on the…

The Problem With Music, by Steve Albini
This oft-referenced article is from the early '90s, and originally appeared in Maximum Rock 'n' Roll magazine. While some of the information and figures listed here are dated, it is still a useful and informative article. And no, we don't know how to reach Steve Albini.
Whenever I talk to a band who are about to sign with a major label, I always end up thinking of them in a particular context.…

Astralbating podcast #15 (SOPA/PIPA Edition) available
Episode 15 is a celebration of the SOPA blackout. I didn't black out the site this week but instead brewed up this edition in my cauldron with an especially dark and sticky formula. We have the Murder City Devils, Savage Republic, The Fall, French Cold Wavers Trisomie 21 and Guerre Froide, Scars, TSOL, Rowland S. Howard and more.
You can imbibe it here.

Illustrated Nix Comics Artistic Statement
I'm starting to do some things that require that I present an artistic statement. (Grant stuff mostly) It felt a lot like busy work to me and I have having a hard time getting it done until dawned on me that there was no reason I couldn't do it in comic book form:
