Nasty Grind #9

Everything’s fab and groovy on episode 9 of the Nasty Grind show. For this offering, Lord Muck pulls on his kaftan and goes on a weird and way-out trip to the swinging ’60s to play psych and beat sounds from such combos as The Leathercoated Minds, Gary & The Mod Men, The Human Expression, The Art Collection, the Belfast Gypsies and the One One Seven Group, to name but a few… …

RadiOblivion No.12

Michael Kaiser is a Mau-Mau!

No, Wait! He’s a Martian. In fact he’s his own Favorite Martian chosing select choice cuts of fine Prime slabs from the likes of The Real Kids, New Bomb Turks, Roky Erickson, Don Covay, Ray Campi, Stud Cole, Sarek’s Son, and of course, The Grave Diggers!!

This episode actually turned out sillier than originally intended… and that is an amazing thing in and of itself, kids!

The Sandcastle Festival - 9/15/07

Being categorized as a "surf" band allows us to play the occasional festival during the summer. For the second year we have been invited to play the Santa Barbara Sandcastle Festival. What could be more fun than carrying your gear across the sand on a hot summer day? Actually, it was a lot of fun. A popular Santa Barbara event, this year had a huge turnout. Kelp opened the day with a 90 minute set mix of classics such as Steel Pier and Jack The Ripper and our own…

Charlie Feathers - "One Good Gal/Cockroach (45 rpm)" [Norton]

With two full-length Charlie Feathers releases under their belts already, Norton records chiefs Billy Miller and Miriam Linna just can't get enough! And they're not alone! The "One Good Gal/Cockroach" single serves as a teaser for Norton's upcoming third Feathers compilation, which will consist mostly of never before released material from the often ignored rockabilly pioneer and country stylist who originally got his start as a session musician working for Sam Phillips at… Continue

8 2007 Playlist...

It’s that time of the month again, the start of a new one. It’s also coming up on the start of fall, the start of school, and in many places a new fiscal year… for me the start of a new month is a time for me to look back at my monthly play list that I generate of the tunes that have caught my ear over the last 4 odd weeks or so…

For me, the start of September this year and thing time around is a real changing point, I moved back to Ann Arbor Michigan, which I fled in August of 2002,… Continue

Sept. 9, 2007 - Paul "Pablo" Fritz birthday bash

Just returned home following a birthday party for Kelp guitarist Paul Fritz (aka Pablo Fleece) We dined on carnitas, guac, beer and traunia (geek alert: traunia is the name of the drink the alien offerend Kirk and crew in the Trek episode "The Corbonite Maneuver". He offers it saying "this is traunia". It has become a tradition for Kelp to do a shot of tequila before every show saying "this is traunia") We took a moment… Continue

On the previous post...

Apparently my post asking whether people really cared about what others have to say annoyed a few around here. I didn't mean to do so, nor to be rethorical, much less to write poetry. I just have had really frustrating experiences trying to share feedback, comments, etc. leaving me with the notion that many people just use this kind of resources to blow off steam, not really caring what anyone else has to say. Apparently here that is not the case. So, I apologise for the inconveniences I may…

Sept 5th 2007 or 4th of July Memories from 2006

State Street - 4th of July 2006 in Santa Barbara, CA. That's Sam Frankeberger dead center, drummer for Kelp. Sam started Kelp with myself and Paul in a guest house I was living in back in '95 overlooking Rincon Point, a famous surfing spot in California. Sam split for personal reasons and was later replaced by a guy whose dad was the lead singer for REO Speedwagon. He was replaced by another guy from a speed metal band. I left town and moved to Brooklyn, NY…
