Mystery Action 51

It’s that time of year, again! My favorite holiday! HALLOWEEN! This

isn’t exactly the spookiest show, but I sprinkled it with Halloween-ish

songs like “Werewolf” by Southern Culture on the Skids, “The Creature

From the Lava Lagoon” by the Bomboras, “A Hearse Is Not a Home” by

Frankie Stein & His Ghouls, “You Can’t Get Him Frankenstein” by the

Fleshtones, and more. Trick ‘r treat, beat your meat!…

PRINCETON RECORD EXCHANGE ALBUM REVIEW

The Beat Rats “A Cellar Full Of Rats!”

by Beverly Paterson in Album Reviews

The Beat Rats “A Cellar Full Of Rats!” (Kool Kat Musik 2027)

Meet The Beat Rats, a four piece band from New York City, who recreate the sound, style and attitude of an early sixties British combo with utter perfection. The best rock and roll has always been built upon a skeletal foundation of a few basic chords, trashy drumming and impassioned vocals, and “A Cellar Full Of Rats!” trembles and… Continue

Rarities Obscurities and Hen's Teeth

I heard about a Detroit band called THE UP who a record store clerk in Kutztown, PA said were as good as the Stooges. I finally tracked down KILLER UP. Great sound, inept playing but with a slight bit of the savagery at bay. FRANCOIS HARDY was "The 'Yeah Yeah' Girl of Paris" who released albums of charming echoey folk in the 60's and haunted my dreams after seeing her scopitones after a late night of partying. Flash forward to the 90's and this older, but still relevant woman recorded a harder… Continue

The Mummies! AW yeah!

I made a 24 hour trip to San Francisco this last weekend (October 24th, 2009) just to see the Mummies play what may be their last US show (they actually played twice that night but that second show at Thee Parkside was packed of people who couldn't get into the show at Bottom of the Hill, so packed that people at the first show couldn't get in). You can call me crazy but it was worth the trip down from Seattle. They were just liked I remembered. The songs mostly consisted of selections from… Continue

Cincinnati Rock and Roll Weekend!

Check out my recap of one of the most exciting rock n' roll weekends in Cincinnati's recent memory. Newcomers Weakness destroyed the Comet with noisy, sloppy punk rock skronk, Lions Rampant staked their claim as one of the best garage rock bands in the country at Molly Malone's, and a packed house paid tribute to Cincinnati's punk rock grandma, Pat Rice. A hell of a good time, for sure. You folks need to start paying attention to Cincinnati, RIGHT NOW!

Whats up yall, I am a pirate radio dj on a station in northern California called Humboldt Free Radio Alliance. I do a 2 hour show every week and want to do an entire show of one man garage bands. Any one have any suggestions? I have a few already: bbq, King Lollipop and Dead Elvis. Any suggestions of who to check out would be great. See More
