My top 25 most played tunes added in 2007 according to iTunes

Way back at the start of the this year, I set up a playlist that would collect the 25 most played songs that I added to my iTunes in 2007. I did this mostly so that I could look back and see what really caught my ear, and as sort of a companion to my monthly lists of what I had the urge to drop and drag into my play list for each month.

The Urges - "Psych Ward" [Off the Hip]

Debut full-length by Dublin, Ireland's manic garage/punk quintet The Urges. Recorded in the all analogue studio of Circo Perrotti in Gijon, Spain with Jorge Explosion on production duties (Billy Childish, The Cynics), Psych Ward (Off The Hip 2007) is a savage energy filled ode to the earliest days of punk. Paying homage to underground heroes of the 60's like the Seeds, Q'65, and 13th floor Elevators, and following in the footsteps of latter day madmen like, "Wild" Billy… Continue

i went to the hatebreed show at the electric factory in philly. i held my own for someone 4feet 11 1/2 inches (thats right folks every 1/2 inch counts) lol. any who i walked away with a t-shirt, some random bruises, a stiff neck and a black eye but it was probably the best show i've been to in a long time. i'm used to shows where there is maybe 1 to 2 pits going on simultaneously but the e-factory was crazy! at any given moment there would be like 3-4 throwing downs started at once, it was… Continue

So...

Someone on Wikipedia fucked up the garage punk page again, I tried to log in and change it back, but my log in doesn't even work anymore! So, fuck em', fuckin wikipedia smart asses; I guess they need to make room for the pages on "dance punk" "folk punk" "Gaelic punk" "Gypsy punk" "anarcho punk" and "avant punk," all of which have descriptive pages on wikipedia, something garage punk isn't allowed to have. FUCKING RETARDS!!!!!!!!

I don't type out "FUCKING RETARDS!!!!!!!!," as often as your… Continue

Recording Session Chatter

Thought some of you might enjoy some "Recording Session Chatter" between takes. I have included a short piece during the recording of "Only By Your Own" in July, 2007. The group was laying down the instrumental tract for the song. The vocal track was recorded at a later date.

then and now.

Then.

When I was seventeen I'd start going to punk shows. I liked old cars, pin-up girls, tattoos, and playing guitar.

Now.

I have alot of tattoos, I drive an old car, I can actually play guitar, and Im married to a pin-up girl.

The Brymers - Song Playlist

I thought some of you would like to hear a few cuts from our summer recording session. "Do You Think You Love Me" was written by Jim Mellick and myself about six months ago. "Only By Your Own" was written by Jim Mellick and Ken Valentine in 1965 and re-recorded this summer. The group thought a harmonica and more fuzz would make the song "fuller" and give it a punch. The "60's Fast Medley" and the "60's Slow Medley" was also recorded this summer. They are covers of a few of our favorite songs…

Movie REview: Death Sentence

If you live in Columbia, SC the reason to see this Death Wish-like revenge action flick is all the familiar downtown locations. Some of this was filmed right down the street from my house. The local weekly ran a huge feature on it, all the critics slammed it, but it's sure to show up on pay-cable as an attention-grabbing taut fast-paced (and unusually downbeat) and somewhat better than average vigilante opus. We all laughed at the idea of a street gang in Columbia, SC that was all white… Continue

The Brymers

Just a note to thank all of the members of the GaragePunk.com forums and other such forums for your continued passion for the 60's music. Many of the 60's "rockers" like myself are continually amazed that you still enjoy the "sound." If any of you ever have any questions concerning various groups of the mid 60's do not hesitate to drop me a line. Maybe we performed on the same show and I can share some info with you. The Brymers spent alot of time in San Francisco (1966-1968) during the…
