Wow. Just Wow. There's also a Whole Foods in The Bowery!
UPDATE: It's actually a John Varvatos boutique. But that's even more expensive!

Also, does gentrification mean that places more inland (= Cheap Rent) will be the new 'cool' spots? Would be funny to see that trend 50 years down the road, when Nebraska or ------------- is hip!
Comment by dave on November 15, 2012 at 3:54pm Yeh John, Burroughs said that when his rent went up to, I think, $300 back around '80 he just couldn't hack it. As a nation we haven't been able to make a living on the min. wage since 1970. Ya know NYC is waaay up there, rent-wise.
And what is up w/ that homeless shelter now? I'd bet money it ain't above Urban Outfitters!
To salve my heart, I just remind myself that DJs who toil for peanuts in order to bring savage sounds to like-minded people will always have better taste than the average shmo (sp!). Hipness never translates to $ or masses.
Ha, piss-scented bathrooms unfortunately exist outside of Noo Yawk as well, Austin had plenty. Whew!
As an aside I read in the past 6 months that Williamsburg got so expensive, one guy found an apt. *in Manhattan* to move into from B'klyn. Vot de Heck?!
