why does the uk music scene suck so many lemons

Very depressing to see advertised the other day that the maccabees are "the best guitar band in the uk"

really...?

is that what it has come too?

not only do we have very little garage bands but very few from America tour here either. Look at Prima Vera in Barcelona. Bands like Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees have all played there but London is just sucking on lemons.

"Hey why doesn't another famous Britpop band have a revival and lets enjoy listening to music that came out 15 years ago"

COME ON!!!

It does seem like the Continent goes out of the way to attract people, Spain and the Netherlands have long been known to treat bands well, as 2 examples.

Here in the US it's hard on bands, it seems like people don't like loud, energetic guitar bands anymore (the bulk of the pop., I mean)

My sympathies...

You’ll hear no arguments from me about the mainstream music scene over here being utter balls (but that’s a global epidemic which I endeavour to have as little to do with as humanly possible…), and the current garage scene is certainly lacking, but there are still plenty of good things to be found in London (and elsewhere) if you make the effort. The line-up for this year’s Le Beat Bespoke (if you dig your 60s flavoured garage) is shaping up to be one of the best for a while (http://www.newuntouchables.com/lebeatbespoke/?page_id=1810) and the word on the street is that The Dirty Water Club is making a return in the near future.

You might have to dig a bit to find the things you like but surely that’s the price we all have to pay for opting not to consume the warm diarrhoea that leaks out of the radio? It could be much worse…
