Dave Day, R.I.P.

I'm feeling great sadness after hearing today of the death of Dave Day, the man with the banjo in The Monks. Dave suffered a heart attack last Sunday, resulting in a massive brain injury. He was taken off life support and passed away at 6:30am yesterday at the Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington. Dave was one of the absolutely nicest people that I had the pleasure of meeting. He never lost his passion for rock'n'roll and seeing him at a festival, down in front of the stage enjoying the bands, was a real inspiration. He'll be missed by many, many people.

Heard this today from Debbie of The Nuns. Very sad news. Really took a unique approach to making music and it really worked in The Monks.

RIP Dave.

Yeah, he was one of the highlights of a great show when they played London. He really made their stage presence, as well as being an essential part of one of the best and most unique rock'n'roll sounds ever.

This is terrible, awful news. I'm glad I got to see The Monks when they played Dirty Water. They were truly bizare and yet awesome at the same time. It was hard to tell exactly who their influences were, if any. I remember watching Dave onstage that night, and thought he looked like he was really enjoying himself. He came across as someone who was quite a lot of fun, and a sweet guy. Halway through the set he took off his neck tie and threw it into the crowd, I was lucky enough to catch it and still have it as a mememto to that great night when The Monks invaded London. He will be missed.

What a shame. Me and the wife ended up chatting with him for a short bit at the Rockaround a few years back. Came off as a real genuine person that was having a great time being out and playing. This pic was from that night.

I just heard about this this morning from a good friend who knew him. I never got the chance to meet him, but my friends who knew him personally said "He was a man who loved music." I will miss him nonetheless. Here is what is posted on the offical Monks website;
